I recently got the new Codex for my BA army and im confused about a rule for my Death Company. They have the black rage rule but it doesnt say if putting a Chaplain or IC in the squad will negate this rule.

Anybody have any ideas?

It's a change. You have to keep them in a transport to control them. It sucks, but that's how it will be for the foreseeable future.

Thats what I thought. I still put a Chaplain in the squad to give them a little boost. Putting a Sanguinary Priest would be a waste as DC already get Feel No Pain and Furious Charge. I want to convert a model into a Sanguinary Priest with a Jump Pack so he almost turns my regular Assault Squad into DC by giving them Feel No Pain and Furious Charge. Also, im a little mad that they made the units cost less points but increased the cost of jump packs. How do you feel about that?

i doubt you'll see much death co on the tabletop with jump packs and they're overpriced by 5pts. frankly, i doubt many people will use death co period. the only reason i'm still considering using them is out of nostalgia and a sense of fluff... i'll either be converting them to bolters to shamble slowly across the battlefield relentless-firing the guns... or dumping them in the enemy's face via drop pod on turn one as a distraction against shooting the rest of my army. i've already ripped off their jump packs as it is not worth a 15pt/model cost.

I think the fact that they made the unit composition 3-30 pretty ridiculous. They should make it 15 max and a 0-2 Unit Limit

I'm still using my Death Company and they have their jump packs but I'm using a small squad to keep the points in check. Fielding them in a transport (Stormraven) really helps to alleviate problems from raging.

Where can you buy Stormraven models?
Or do you have to convert them?

You have to convert them. You can find some nice examples over on the P&M forum.

Death Company are still awesome IMO. They pretty much wreck whatever the are attacking, don't take much damage from the average shooting attack, and aren't really that hard to control.

I've seen a lot of "Death Co. suck" but really when used right they rarely fail me. I will agree that putting jump packs on them makes them a little less viable but still good. It's not like it's gonna take them long to get them where their rage tells them to.

I personally only put them in Rhinos, Razorbacks and Stormravens. The Stormraven is probably the best transport for Death Co. 10 Death Company plus Lamartes or Astorath = a ton of pain. And they can simply assault right out of the vehicle

This has pretty much become tactics.

My reaction was to take said die, and hurl it out the window of the 3rd floor of our student union. I then placed a Commissar model next to the rest of my dice pile. They immediately began performing much better.

My DC and an Assault Squad crashed into my brothers friends IG army and swept through. Im just a little pissed that they dont have Rending anymore.

Can you really control Death Company by putting them in a transport?
As an ork player i dont have the BA codex at hand, and the FAQ dont answear it, but the Ork FAQ says this about Mad Dok Grotsnik.

Can Grotsnik board a vehicle if doing so will get him closer to the nearest enemy than if he moved normally?
A. In the spirit of the rule, if embarking in a vehicle will not prevent him from charging that turn and will also get him closer to the nearest enemy than moving normally that turn, he may do that. Once aboard, the vehicle must always move in such a way as to move as fast as possible towards the closest enemy and allow Grotsnik to disembark and charge the closest enemy as soon as possible.

What do you think?

They simply have the rage rule, which is not the same as Mad Docs rule.

as fast as possibler towards the closest visible enemy. There are exceptions for being embarked, falling back, or no enemy visible.

As Don stated the Rage rule is ignored while in a transport.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.
