Ok, so i was wondering....
Does a zzap gun roll to hit or not? it says no in the codex but yes in the AoBR rulebook, and the rulebook is more recent. Also, what would be the point of a zzap gun with no auto-hit? i mean, you would pay 10 points extra for something that wouldn't usually even get up to the S8 of a kannon shell! what would the point be? also, the Ork Codex was notorious for mistakes. IS this another of those? replies helpful thanks!

you must have an Old codex.

unless it says it auto-hits then it rolls as normal

The point is the ability to counter all armor and inflict penetrating hits on AV 14 vehicles.

As for rules, it does exactly what its codex says it does.

Rules changes cannot be ignored even if they were oversights in the editing process. Unless, that is, everyone at the table agrees.

The section at the end of the main rulebook that states that zapp guns do not roll to hit also states that it defers to the codex if there are any differences. The codex does not state they auto-hit, so they do not... oversight or no.

Of course, the BRB was printed after the ork codex was released and claims that all of its army stats were correct at the time of printing. GW is fun that way.
As for the reasoning behind zapp gunz being remarkably bad statistically? You'll have to ask GW, it's hard to make an option that bad accidentally.
