I play BA and my army is mostly black with red trim but im thinking about painting a majority full red.
Whats the best way to get a nice, rich red paintjob?

Make everything not red flat, dark, and drab. This will make the red pop much more.

Were I to do a BA army, I'd probably spray prime a dark brown (or black prime and then slather it in brown). Then I'd paint it some more medium color red and then apply a few solid coats of a bright red in highlight.

The end result would look less like the BA on page 241 of the BRB, and more like the guy holding the bolter on page 191.

Thank you. I would have never guessed using brown would be good with red. Scorched brown would be an ideal color right?

A way I've found for quite a deep rich red is to base with Mechrite Red, wash with Leviathan Purple/Baal Red then highlight with Scab Red, progressively lightening with orange...

Tho it might be too dark for BA. You could try substituting Blood Red for the Scab Red when highlighting?

I don't like my BA looking too bright so you dont have to worry. I usually coat the model in Red Gore and do a mix of 1:1 Red Gore and Blood Red.

Nice paintjob. And faces were a bit difficult for me too until I started a SW detachment and had to paint faces on nearly all of my models. I just try to get a good amount of paint on the surface to give the model that 'healthy' look. If that makes sense

Thanks! Fortunately I've chosen to go with orks, so faces won't be an issue... for now!

Hopefully it'll give you an idea of how my red "recipe" turns out. Dunno if it's suitable for BA, but some might like a darker, more sombre look instead of bright red...

It will work out for my BA. They're painted mainly Red Gore but im always willing to try out new techniques and get new results

Hope it works well for you! Would be keen to see the end result if you try it (and like it )

I'm planning on painting all throughout the weekend so I'll be able to post some pictures soon.
