if i wanted to write a small story for some of my friends about my own DIY chapter would Back Library sue me?

Writing stories is pretty common, and never a big deal (I think there are even large sites devoted to it). The only thing is that you can't make money off of it. If you profit off of it, then yes, they would probably get in your face about it.

Um, incorrect. (Just ask the folks who made Damnatus.)
However, it's exceptionally unlikely that you will attract GW's attention unless your project is large in scope and intended for a wide distribution, which it doesn't sound like you intend.
