An Exercise in Finesse

Having wanted something which will give me a different angle on Warhammer 40,000, which means stepping away from the Deathwing, and the Sternguard, I'm looking into an Eldar Force. I, however, know nothing about Eldar, so it will fall to you, the Community, the experienced Eldar Players and the Codex Gurus to figure me out something that works!

To clarify, I'm looking for an Eldar Combat Patrol of no more than 500 Points, with Minimum 1 Troops.

The Miniatures I (potentially) have available (as I'll need to buy them, but know of someone who's offering them painted) are as follows.

HQ
1x Avatar of Khaine
2x Farseer w/ jetbike,singing spear
1x Autarch w/ jetbike/fusion gun
2x Warlock

Elites
5x Wraithguard

Troops
10x Dire Avengers w/ Exarch (dual shuriken catapults)
9x Rangers
10x Guardians w/ Starcannon/Scatterlaser or Brightlance (magnitized)
10x Guardians w/ Starcannon/Scatterlaser or Brightlance (magnitized)
1x Wave serpent w/ Twin-linked Brightlance

Fast Attack
5x Warpspiders incl. Exarch

Heavy support
2x Support weapon platforms w/ Vibrocannon (crew is missing)
1x Fire Prism
1x Falcon
1x Warwalker w/ 2 brightlances

Let me stress, again, that these are the only Miniatures I will have access to.

Thanks,

Popsicle

Before I offer any of my meager advice, are there any limitation rules for the small games you'll be playing? Often, there are limits on Monstrous Creatures, 2+ Saves...etc...to keep it balanced a little better.

Aside from that, the Eldar strongpoints currently are Jetseers. Farseer with Jetbike would be okay, but without Warlocks to back him up...will be a little fodder(Need 3 for the 'unit' to join him into).

Dire Avengers in the Wave Serpent would be strong, Rangers are good in smaller games IMO...and if you can fit in the Prism, that'd be great too.

Hope this helps, but at 500pts, Eldar aren't that spectacular. Finesse require more than just a few units for opponents to key on that are deadly, and the Eldar can't really field many survivable ones at 500pts. IMO.

Farseer Faenyin
7,100 pts Yme-Loc Eldar(Apoc Included) / 5,700 pts (Non-Apoc)
Record for 6th Edition- Eldar: 25-4-2
Record for 7th Edition -
Eldar: 0-0-0 (Yes, I feel it is that bad)

Battlefleet Gothic: 2,750 pts of Craftworld Eldar
X-wing(Focusing on Imperials): CR90, 6 TIE Fighters, 4 TIE Interceptors, TIE Bomber, TIE Advanced, 4 X-wings, 3 A-wings, 3 B-wings, Y-wing, Z-95
Battletech: Battlion and Command Lance of 3025 Mechs(painted as 21st Rim Worlds)

I'm not sure; it's just for some Alternative Fun between the Campaigns and Tournaments that I play in, without much considerable sucess - yet - at the Club. As long as there's nothing to outrageous, I don't think there are any predetermined regulations or limits. Thanks for the Advice. Avengers, Serpent, Rangers and Prism. Incidentally, it's 0-2 HQ. Minimum 1 Troops Choice.

I have some experience with Eldar. Havn't really played combat patrol much. As I understand it its a killpoints 500 or less type game right? In that case, I'd try to use the eldars overcostedness as much to your advantage as possible, and take a small amount of killpoints. Youd have to tweak around the list, but something like

Avatar - 155
Wave Serpent Spirit Stones, Scatter laser - 120
5x Dire Avengers - 60
Fire Prism Spirit Stones, Holo Fields - 160

That puts you at 495. I really really wanted to fit a farseer with fortune in there to make the avatar a real hoss, but I just couldn't do it. None of these targets is easy to kill, especially when you only have 500 points coming against you. The avatar and Fire prism can bust any heavy armor y ou might come up against, and the scatter laser is great anti troop, and OK against light vehicles. The fire prism can also double up as an anti troop vehicle with its dispersed blast.

I am noticing now that your WS has Brightlances on it. I would pretty strongly suggest against trying to take it like that. The bright lance is horribly overcosted even when you have 1000-1500 points to play with, with only 500 points, 45 points for a TL BS 3 slightly better Missile launcher is just too much. You wont even be facing a LR at this points level, and thats the only time I really think its even mildly worth it to take bright lances on a Wave Serpent. If you Cant take it off.... I don't know I guess you could take the Spirit Stones off both vehicles. But I don't recommend it.

I suppose at this low a points level a non mechanised force MIGHT work. But I doubt it. Eldar suck outside a vehicle. Badly.

Thanks. I'm not sure whether it'll be Kill Points or Objectives or whatever; it's just a Time-Filler Force for me to play Random Games with, in between Events and Organised Happenings. Thanks for the advice, though.
