I've recently started a beastman army for the new 8th edition, what would you recommend on a unit of gors the shield upgrade or the extra hand weapon? I was planning on primarily using them to flank a hoard of ungors.

Well it also depends whats going with them (mention this since you must have 2 units)

Gore or Doom Bull, then you're better off with an extra hand weapons or nothing.
Shaman,Beast-Lord or Wargor shield.
On their own, I give shields to the unit flanking and nothing to the unit that starts on the board (unless its going to have a character).

I prefer to give mine the extra weapon. Each unit has a good chance of getting primal fury off (even more so if joined with a lord or hero) so you get re-rolls to hit on many more attacks. Add to that if you do get the double 1's you are getting re-rolls to hit on 3 dice per model in the front rank!

gors make a great anvil, bring them 5X6 and attach a bray shaman and your good to go.

anything near them, hit them with the sig spell in shadow to reduce their str by d3 and suddenly your t4 gors are really really tough.

Remember that with the new rules a gorebull or doombull in a unit of gors will not get a LoS roll...

That can be pretty dangerous now....

I've faced a horde unit of Gors with 2x HW and supported by a BSB with the +1 Strength Banner and a Gorebull. It was not a fun unit to mess with.

Once the Gorbull died he was getting re-rolls on his Primal Fury and that made them just as nasty.

Take the 2xhand weapons. Shields by themselves will not save you from much but more handweapons with hatred could push you over into the win category.

Shields for non ambushing units for me. Any gors ambushing get extra hand-weapons for maximum impact.

Ok cool, thanks for all the tips, I think I will give the gors out flanking the extra hand weapons. Once I have a bigger list I'll post that too.

Generally I run with 2 40 blocks of Gors with Shields and 2 20 blocks in ambush with AHW. The extra armor and parry save can really help for combo res. When the ambushing Gors hit from behind or flanks; its a steamroll.

Primal Fury is just nasty nasty nasty!~
