Ok... I was just thinking of a way to make it easy to tell apart my chaos chosen from my regular marines, and I noticed that, since most of them will be modelled holding pistols, and I dont plan on using plasma pistols anywhere else in my army, that I'd give all my chosen plasma pistols. This wouls only be to tell part the models, and they would still be equipped with bolt pistols in the actuall game (plus I just love how the plasma pistols look )
If your opponent was doing this, would it bother you at all? Would there be any issues in tournaments?

Considering that Chosen have the option of being equipped with up to five Plasma Pistols, there could be a problem.

I wouldn't mind so much because it's a pistol, but I've had games that had models modeled with Melta guns, but were shooting them as plasma guns... It get's really confusing.

Well, no......But, I might suggest waiting a bit. The Warriors of Chaos (Fantasy) just got chosen models coming soon, which leads me to believe that CSM might get them too.
If you don't want to do that, then add embellishments to the armor. Those shoulders with the extra trim are perfect for chosen marines, as is the chainmail torso.
Edit: Never mind. Those chosen aren't new, I just never noticed them. I saw them on GW's what's new today, and I thought they were incoming

Hmm it wouldnt bother me but I am pretty easy going. I could see it bothering others.
You could just paint them slightly diffrent. Or give them a mark that your normal marines DONT have.
If you have the money you could invest in a gew dark angels upgrade sprues and use the robed bodies as your chosen. I see that pretty often and it looks nice as well.

^^Unfortunately, I already have troops that have the trim and are not meddelled as chosen (I really love those shoulder pads lol) and theres only one torso with chainmail per box (and i've already used them all)
^^^^They would all have plasma pistols (Every single chosen marine, and I don't have any more plasma pistols in my list) so... in tournaments, i can see there may be a problem... keep in mind I'd be using them as bolt pistols.

An easy way to tell Chosen apart is to give 'em Chaos Knight heads. I find it works well. I think people would get too confused by the plasma pistols.

I'm thinking you could just put a mark of a certain color of paint on them to specify them as all in one squad. Or maybe a big spike or tentacle-thing on all of them, in the same place. Or robes like someone else said. To be honest, those are fairly easily created from clay (or greenstuff, though it takes a bit much for a robe specifically). And my boyfriend, who is not that great with greenstuff/clay managed to make some really good cowls for his Thousand Sons (He hates the Egyptian look because everyone has it.) so you could try making some greenstuff cowls for them.
Or you could make a chain, I think there's a guide somewhere online as to how to make a greenstuff chain (with a flat back) and you could just make 5 of those to glue onto a shoulder pad on each person or the chestplates.
Just some thoughts that are preferable, because it would bother me if at any point you were fielding some of the pistols in their hands as different from the other pistols (EX: 3 plasma pistols, 2 regular pistols.) And aren't all the 'guns' in their non-chain-sword-hands bolt pistols anyway? What's wrong with those? You could always put spikes on their guns that would be different than any of the others.

If you havent painted them already i would suggest painting them different colors. I did this with my 1k sons to tell each squad apart. I made their main color blue and the secondary colors different.
Now if you did paint them or dont like the idea of painting them differently then you could make them standing on higher bases. For example make rock formations like flat rocks.
Just an idea i wouldnt have too much of a problem with them having plasma pistols but it is nice to know whats what at a glance.

I think its a cool idea, but to avoid confusion you might want to only equip the marines that are able to carry them, and have the rest as side arms.
That way they are represented on your models, but not necessarily in use on your model. Just a thought.

I'd actually go as far as to painting them a different legion! I have 3 units of black legion marines that use meltas, and 2 word bearer units that use flamers. None are WYSIWYG, but when I explain that the word bearers are flamers, they catch on fast
Really, I'm considering building another chaos marine army for the word bearers. I love how easy the paintjob is. It's just scab red and boltgun metal. Gold is too hard. But I digress Off to brave the outside world!

I think it would be a bad idea. Every time I saw it on the table I would panic, "they all have plasma pistols and they're coming right at me!" Now, granted, I am a "special needs" player these days, but I think there is a reasonable expectation that if a plasma pistol is shown, a plasma pistol is expected. It's just in my particular case that when you explain that they are "just" bolt pistols, I will forget five minutes later. The good news is they say I should get much better in another 6 or 12 months...

Ahh but see i play mono god and mono themed 1k sons so nyah!
But i do agree with you Samus that would work also. I do think that even as slow as i am i would catch on to what was what within at least 5 turns.
