After watching the awsomeepicbada$$donttouchmyvodcafortheemperorness of the World at War Nazi Zombie trailers, I belive some models are in order. Or at least some additions to exsisting models. (Praise the emperor for me haveing the perfect army to do this. God bless Vampire count models). My question is, could there possibly be zombies in 41m that have NO relation to any chaos god at all. Would it break the fluff to have some reanimated corpses running around that are not the product of some chaos gods worship, but by Science on some backwatter imperial research world? When ever I have writen something, I have always used the chaos gods as a crutch to add in some monsters. So, what do you think Dakka, could some scientist get away with some corpse reanimation research in the Imperium?

It would have to be linked to Nurgle somehow in some way. Sorry.

On the upside, it may not have been intentional, as he tries out these diseases all the time.

Even stimulants? Mutations? Drugs? (Damn, all chaos stuff...)

Yeah it would need to be related to nurgle. The plague zombie thing you can take in apoc is really good. If they had it something like that it would be pretty neat.

Can't you see we have been abandoned? Forget matters of duty and honor to the emperor this is now a matter of pride.

Only if you're going to use Adeptus Mechanicus cybernetically reanimated corpses, instead of using your current zombie models.

Is there are reason that you are adverse to laying the blame of your zombie plauge at Nurgle's feet?

What I was thinking for the infestation was that, in some forgotten bunker, a fanatical scintist tried to improve his small milita by giving them "enhancing drugs" to make them more resistant to pain, and more responsive to his orders, as well as strength and endurance improvements. The symptoms were also enginered to be infectous. He would then send them upon the capatial to overthrow the current leaders and put himself in power. After the first group was given the drugs, they loaded onto stolen valk's and began a slow push towards the capatail. The first valk was shot down on its way to the dropzone by PDF multi-stubber tanks. The valk crashed into a prision transfer station, which contained a few thousand political prisonars. The enhanced troopers descended upon the prisonars and either ripped them apart with their bare hands, or dragged them back to the crashed dropship. The PDF sealed off sections that lead to the crash area, although screams and inhuman moans could be heard from beyond the blast doors. The prision guards began to pull out from the transfer station, leaveing the prisonars there. They sealed every buldhead, destroyed all ammunition and weapons that couldnt be taken with them, burned records, and blasted the prision doors shut. Some of the prision guards and received bite marks mixed with a gray slime. Soon, the injured wither succumed to their wounds or became incredibly blood thirsty and violant, and began sprouting hi-pitched cackles and giberish. Some transport craft were infected, while others killed the infected troopers. The infection soon spread in pockets across the planet, infecting small garrision, civilian compounds, and rebel outposts. The planet is at war with itself, and before the capital was over run, a single distres signal was sent.

"The infection has spread. We are not in control. They must not reach the command station. We have pulled in around that station. We would rather die than let HIM reach it. Its what the infected speak of, their master. He must not reach the array. Send reinforcments."

(Sorry if this seems silly. I am going for the mysterious villian thing. Never thought I was that good of a writer, but I belive this gets the point across of what I am trying to do. This is kind of a pilot as it were.)

Actually, yes. The man responsible is a fanatical worshiper of the emperor. He thinks that he knows what the emperor truley wants. Having nurgle behind it dosnt make much sense.

Well, apart from him clearly being insane, it actually makes sense that Nurgle is behind the whole ordeal, peace by peace giving the scientist the 'clues/steps' to this super serum.

In fact, there was a similar scenario from the Adeptus Mechanus from the Planetkill books.

Never heard of them, but I just spent about two hours watching the Nazi zombie plot videos, so that might explain something. Would it be worth expanding on that pilot? I mean, I had ideas for some new IG tanks and weapons, a whole zombie army, and some SM/Inqusistion action taking place. And nurgle (or tzeentch, as after reading my own writing, could also do this kind of thing) would play a minor role in the plot.

You could say it's a form of worms that burrow into corpses and the Hive Mind allows the worms to control the limbs after the host's death, like when Tyranids used to be Eternal Warriors all round saying the Hive Mind was so potent it kept them fighting after their brains died or some thing along that lines.

Zombie plague is in the 40k fluff already. And as far as I know it is not directly related to Nurgle (any more than flu is related to Nurgle) and you don't have to be a Nurgle follower or have had any contact with a Nurgle follower to catch it.

In Necromunda plague zombies are can be found down hive, and even had rules. I also recall reading about a planet that was completely wiped out by Zombie Plague.

Zombie Plague is extremely contagious if one bites you, then you get it too.

BAM. Just search lexicanum for more zombie stuff, there's not a lot about it but it's there.

Oh, and the system they lost was the Cando system. Also Hydra Minoris.

40k is an enormous universe with all kinds of sci-fantasy elements that can be used to explain 9/10 things like this. Go nuts. It could be something as simple as an Imperial coroner giving a corpse a jiggawat enema and running from there. Also, read Cadian Blood for some great Guard on zombie combat. It's easily the best BL book I've ever read, and I've read my fair share of them - both good and bad.

Okay, putting on my 'Champion of Nurgle' hat here:

Plague Zombies were featured in the Lost and the damned army list, as well as the 'Servants of decay' list found in Imperial Armour volume seven. The Zombie Plague was begun by Typhus and the crew of the Terminus Est, though ironically his arch rival-the sorceror Necrosius-holds the title of 'Lord of the Dead'. The disease origionally began in underhives and isolated space stations of worlds ravaged by plagues brought by the crew of the Terminus Est (Typhus' battle ship), but has since become a galaxy spanning pandemic most active around the worlds near the Eye of Terror-Where Typhus currently operates. It can however be transported around the galaxy by unwitting mercheant ships, and once it arrives on the world it is incredibly difficult to stop. Indeed, there is no know cure, and a single bite from an infected will pass on the disease.
Whilst Typhus was most likely the original Catalyst of the Zombie plague (or 'Curse of unbelief', as it is known to the higher ecehelons of the Imperium) he does not have to be present; only a Plaguelord, I.E a lord bearing Nurgle's mark carrying a disease is required to trigger the Plague. An entire branch of the Inquisition (the 'Ordo Sepultrum') has been set up to combat the infection, though it should be noted that the Imperium still treats those Infected with respect when they have been properly 'kiled'.

I seem to remember Plague Zombies featured in Necromunda, without references to Nurgle. Typhus' influence referenced above is clearly a retcon for that, so you could have your Zombies without a known relation to Nurgle, but at the end of the day, that's where they re coming from.

Actually, in the book Death World, they had corpses being reanimated by the planet itself, so anything is possible really.

In Dark Heresy's Creatures Anathema there are references to tech-heretics raising the dead via "protean engeneering" and "Anima Mori". As tech-heretics are not always inspired by Chaos, you could flesh out one of those concepts to get "mad-scientist zombies" sans Nurgle.
