Space Marine Scout with Sniper Rifle
|
Well, here I am again, back at Dakka, starting a new thread. This one might be a failure like the other 2, but who knows.
Anyway, I FINALLY got off my sorry, bored butt and finished my Space Marines battleforce. It may not look like much, but that is because it is. I plan to do some modeling on my flamed and squad captains, but right now, I have neither the money, supplies or skills. However, my
B-Day is soon, approaching, so you will see some modeling...
Hopefully.
Anyway, to get you all started, i got some pics of my army as it stands.
My favorite model:
This is what will be my 1500 point army list:
HQ
Captain - 140 (combi flamer, power sword, artificer armor)
Command Squad - 150 (company standard, champion, flamer)
Troop
Tactical Squad - 225 (rhino, meltagun, plasma pistol)
Tactical Squad - 175 (meltagun)
Combat Squad - 90
Elite
Dreadnoght - 125 (heavy flamer, assault cannon)
Iornclad dread - 150 (2 heavy flamers)
Heavy Support
Land Raider Redeemer - 250 (multimelta)
Vindicator - 140 (siege shield, extra armor)
Thunderfire Cannon - 100
Total - 1545
More to come in a week or 2, when I get money!

Okay. Hit Edit. Now, on each of those links? Highlight it, and then hit the 'Image' button at the top of the page, near where you can make things bold/italic/etc.
On-topic? Looking good so far.

In order to post the image directly, copy the text in the "Forums" box on your gallery page of the image.
That said, looks solid so far. The power fist holding combat knife is kinda odd though... It will be good to see some paint on 'em.
If you feel like getting really creative, there are some good 3rd party and GW bits that you could add on to make them really scream Salamanders.

Fixed. Thanks guys, for the image tips and the complements.
I will buy some paint when my birthday arrives, and I receive funds.
Oh yeah. That powerfist-knife thing was my brother's model. Also explains the meltabomb jeckpack thing.
And crayon tops.

you dont have the scouts or the Assault squad in it thou you have those models in the images, are you not using them?
i don't think your list has much of a focus, one LR will get targeted and killed off since it can be seen as one of the essential units in your army, you are also not fielding many transports so the 2 you do have will get torn apart pretty quickly, i just dont see this list as having much of a solid core army or having units that work together well, you have some good units together but most are going to easily be targetted and brought down leaving the rest of the army in shambles.

Yes, I am not using the scouts or the assault Marines, I just don't see a use in the type of army I would like.
Second, I would like to know how you would construct a vehicle heavy Salamanders army, so I can change mine.

Are you going to stick to the fluff and run alot of flamers?
If so a landraidert redeemer would be a nice addition. As a Nids player I personally HATE them! They ruin my day a bit.

Yeah, Landraider Redeemer will be included most definitely.
And yes, there will be flames. Lots of them.
In fact, I plan to have a teardrop-shaped flame on every left shoulder pad.

i didnt mean to sound insulting if you read it that way.
i would have a core or 2-3 tactical squads in rhinos with meltas, i like having large troops squads and i think they are an important backbone of any army. i dont think there is any advantage to having a single 5 man combat squad since they cant have special weapons and seem pretty weak without much of a role, a ten man squad can hold objectives better and can have a melta or multi-melta.
i dont particularly like the land raider redeemer, it is way too close range, the amount of weapons that can destroy it doubles, since the best range for its weapons are 12inches i believe, and melatguns, multi-meltas, powerfists, meltabombs, thunder hammers, rending claws and many more weapons excel at that range so unless you kill all the enemies with such weapons around you you will be just begging to be hit with one or all of those things. the other land raiders can stay out of such range without harming its abilities to fire. still if you like it use it, it is too much of a fire tank for me, as is mentioned in the great tactics guide, "The Way of the Water Warrior". i would have two if you are going to have any and maybe even three, you can use them to transport the tac squads instead of rhinos, but i think it is good to have more targets for your opponent to be forced to choose from. many have a captain and command squad in one and a terminator squad with thunder hammers in the other. instead of a command squad and captain you could go with vulken since he will help the multi-meltas and thunderhammers in your army. i dont like vindicators i would go with a pred since you have little long range anti-tank weapons. i dont really ever use vindicators, i dont think they are as good as a pred for anti-tank i could be wrong thou. i play IG more than SM.
the dreds seem fine, i dont see why you have two heavy flamers on one? but flamers are good and they will help against hoards. i dont know aboutthe TFC, i made a topic about it and got mixd results on it, but if you want it go with it, i plan to experiment with one soon sincethey seem coom.
thats my feedback.
i would say
vulkan
(maybe guards)
5-10 man termie squad with thunder hammers
3 tac with melta n multi-melta and rhino
2 LR with lascannons
1 pred
all extra points can go into whatever you like. thats just my two cents. Automatically Appended Next Post: i thought the fluff was melats and thunder hammers hence the fact that the chapter master gives bonuses to the use of those weapons

Sageheart, thanks for the input! And sorry if it sounded like I was insulted, that was not the intended effect.
How bout this?
HQ -
Captain (artificer, thunder hammer) - 130
Troop -
Full Tac (meltagun + multimelta) w/ Rhino - 200
Full Tac (meltagun + multimelta) w/ Rhino - 200
Full Tac (meltagun + mulitmelta) w/ Drop Pod - 200 (On a side note, to be with Captain)
Elite -
Full Termie (7 thunder hammer/ stormsheild, 3 lighningclaw) - 400
Heavy -
Land Radier - 250
Vindicator (siege sheild) - 120
Total - 1500
Woo hoo! Perfect 1500!
Anyway, I didn't use Vulcan because of cost and little use in small armies, as I hear.
What do you guys think about that?

it didn't sound that way i was just worried i sounded like a jerk.
why you didn't use vulcan makes sense, i think he seems really good, but seems a waste in small armies that arent packing a ton of melta.
i like that army a ton better. i dont know how well drop pods work or vindicators, but i think this army would do much better than your previous since it has a more central battleline. i would still want a second LR, but at the same time i dont know if you could fit that in your point limit so dont bother.
i see i turned you away from the reedemmer or no?

I didn't use Vulcan because I didn't have enough points.
The one Drop Pod is for tactical insertion, so a Tac squad and the Captain can either get to an objective or in close combat almost immediately.
And the Vindicator? It is ridiculously fun to use.
I did turn away from the Redeemer, however, I wonder if I should switch my normal LR for a LR Crusader, since I think the 2 twin linked lassacannons would be somewhat unnecessary in an army full of meltas. (which, i think are better in both tank killing and special unit killing.) The crusader, on the other hand, would add a lot of infantry killing power, and could possibly be used to carry my termies everywhere.

the thing about lascannons is that you can fire from much farther away which can be very helpful, and can keep the LR out of harmsway of enemy meltas. but you do need a bit more anti-hoard that i have been thinking, so maybe a crusader would be able to fulfill that role.
