Can Space Marine Characters purchase Master Crafted Weapons?
They are mentioned on page 98 of the codex but seems like they only come with certain unique characters?
Anyone heard anything different?

As far as I've seen, only very certain characters get master-crafted items.

Rather than being available to all, they are now special character only.
Making "master crafted" mean something again, not "given to every tom dick and harry captain"...

"Master-crafted weapons are the product of years of careful labour by the most accomplished artisans in the Chapter."
Makes sense that exalted personages such as Captains of whole marine companies would have access to these.
After all you can get digital weapons (one reroll to wound), why not master crafted (one reroll to hit)
In game terms its like a minor warptime ability - for me 20 pts should cover that

Nope, doesnt make sense at all.
"Master crafted" has to mean something, not something that *every* captain has.
Digital lasers (good use of xeno tech there, otherwise xenophobes..) are more common.

You mean like *every* bug has upgrades?
My relic blade captain in last 5 games hit once on average and not once killed more than 1 infantry opponent per turn.

So you now want a Master Crafted Relic Blade? Was the clue not in the phrase "Relic Blade" that it was *already* "master crafted" as in it hits at S6?
Your first comment is inane; every bug ha ving upgrades is not comparable to master crafting every weapon for every captain. Really, it isnt.
Anyway, this either should be moved to proposed rules or closed, as the questyion has been asked and anwered.

Do ten or eleven master crafted weapons per chapter really seem that odd? I know it takes a lot of time and effort to make a master crafted weapon, but I think 10-15 in a few thousand years is believable.
Also I will ignore this debate while I equip all of my BT Marshalls, Castellans, and Chaplains with master crafted weapons.

A better question might be "is every relic blade in the chapter master-crafted?"

I thought digital weapons were more commonly used by the inquisitors. SM chapter masters I would think would use something a little less subtle and far more destructive.

Surprised nobody has mentioned that older versions of the SM codices allowed you to Master-craft pretty much anything (except grenades).
BT & Inquisition both still have the option.
But yeah, straight rules wise, C:SM only allow Master-crafted weapons on certain special guys.

Having a reroll to hit on a relic blade would be great.
My relic blade captain has dissapointed too many times. I5 is great but he so regularly hits 1 or 2 times even on the charge.
Thinking Librarian Epistolary with Termi/SS using might of ancients and force weapon is a nice counter to MCs (not eternal warriors obiously).
But thats another thread.

Codex: Space Marines wrote:...you can use the model and rules for a named character to represent a mighty hero of a different chapter...of your own design...
So a master crafted bolt pistol is only for REALLY special occasions, but everyone can use Marneus Calgar in every battle in every army.
