Is there a way to give tankbustas in an ork army Tank hunters?

I played against an Ork army this weekend and my opponent told me his tankbustas had Tank hunters. I was unfamiliar with tankbustas at the time and just accepted it. How did he give it to them?

I thought "no".
So I looked for it, and do not see how it can be done.

I shall read more.

Nothing in the Ork army has Tank Hunters.

Edit: I think Not in front of my codex.

The only way was if you're playing spearhead.

I had a related question about tankbustas. their Glory Hog rule reads

"They must always attempt to shoot at and/or assault an enemy vehicle if there is one in line of sight, regardless of range. If there is no visible vehicle target, the Tankbustas may select a target as normal."

My question is, if the only visible vehicle target to them, is a walker, thats tied up in an assault, Must they attempt to fire at it, then cannot because its not a valid target ? Or can they not target it in the first place, because it's not a valid target, and may select as normal?

As I read it, they cannot choose a model locked in CC as a valid target which allows them to target normally.

Wow. I was 4-1 at a tourny this weekend, and in the last game first turn the tankbustas exploded my landraider.

He cheated, and I fell to 4-2.

Yep, "If there is no visible vehicle target".
To me that says the vehicle must also be a valid target.

As for the OP, I'll again concur that there is no way to normally give tankbustas tank hunters.

I'm finding it very frustrating to find out after the fact. Especially considering I was in the running for best general. A victory there could have gotten me a Gamesday ticket in Vegas.

/shrug

Note to self, tankbustas are not tank hunters.

At least I know now.

You could have asked to read his codex, but you didnt. You had yourself to blame.

Really, I was to blame for my opponent saying a unit of his had a special rule that they did not? I was unfamiliar with the unit and did not want to slow down the game.

In hindsight I guess I should have, but at the time I was more concerned with having a fun game.

In a tournament? Absolutely.

The blame isn't entirely yours, since he likewise should have known the rules for his own army... but it is the responsibility of each player entering a tournament to be familiar with the rules of the game. Not just so that they don't slow the game down with questions, but so they don't get inadvertently (or deliberately, for that matter) cheated.

The game requires the agreement of both players for the rules to function. If you weren't familiar with the rules for his army and chose to take his word for it, then yes, some of the 'blame' for playing the game incorrectly is yours.

Or, to be less confrontational than applying 'blame' would seem to be, if you agreed to play by his version of the rules, then for the purposes of that specific game, those were the rules of the game.

That's a pretty interesting take on it.

Of course I'm kicking myself for not checking. It is in some small part my fault that he used special rules he had no right to.

On the other hand, there are exactly 2 major tournaments in Winnipeg per year. The individual against whom I was playing is a seasoned veteran of this event, and an organizer/judge of the 2nd. I really didn't think there was any chance he would be wrong about a special rule for his own unit. Especially that they just didn't have it at all.

I guess I should just be more suspicious of opponents. Cheating isn't something I ever consider, so I guess I just expect the same. Lesson learned.

The good news is that this is my first major event, and I made it to the top table with C:SM. Lost only to a cheater and the perennial winner of local events.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
To add to that: I play in chess tournaments, where cheating is all but impossible. It is probably a mindset I have from that environment. I'll need to adjust then to how much easier it is to cheat in 40k.

Tankbustas used to have tank hunters special rule, so he might of have just remembered it wrong. Then again, it was a tournament, so probably not...

Pretty sure 3rd edition orks codex, tankbustaz had a tankhunta rule of sorts. Of course they did not have *all* rokkits nor tankhammers so at worst you had maybe 2-3 rokkits flying at you with str 8+1.

Sounds like he may have just had codex creep.
