I'm pretty new to the game (started a few months before the new SW book came out) so I only know some of the really cheesy stuff from 5th ed like old nidzilla, mech guard, SW razorspam, lash oblit spam, Vulkan melta/flamer spam (hmmm seems to be a trend.) I was just wondering what were some of the dreaded lists from earlier editions.

Thanks for any insight! I know it's not important or anything, but I've always been curious how the game was before I started playing.

Nidzilla and Stealershock were pretty popular in 4th edition. Ironically, mechanized Imperial Guard was awful back in 4th, but new vehicle rules, cheaper Chimeras, and the rampant quantity of melta/plasma have made it incredible. A common thing from the old Marine codex was min/maxing all squads of Marines to have a lascannon and plasma gun. 6 Marines let you get a heavy weapon, so people would just take lots of small squads of Marines and often run them as a gunline. In the Chaos Marines 3.5 edition codex, it wasn't unheard of to have something like two Nurgle Lords with jump packs and daemonic steeds so they could move 12", assault 12", and easily get a turn 1 charge. My memory's a bit hazy on that one though.

Oh, sorry, wrong thread.

I read "old, smelly cheese" and expected a thread about Blood Angels.

My bad.
