Subject: Deepstriking Infantry Platoons?

In Planetstike you can deepstrike all infantry.
Does anyone know how this works for an Infantry platoon? do they all deepstrike in the same place (one deep strike roll)? do the individual elements deep strike separately (one roll for the pcs, one for inf sqaud and so on)?

They are all seperate units, so deepstrike seperately in terms of placement and scattering.
However when reserves turn up the entire platoon would turn up in one go, followed by rolling for indivudal units scattering as above.

I don't know, but I would recommend for planetstrike packing them in chimeras. DS mishaps would sting!

It comes down to this - platoons are one FOC CHOICE, but not one UNIT. When deepstriking you roll per *unit*, not *choice*

nosferatu1001: that's what I was hoping you'd say. I don't suppose you have any supporting evidence for this do you? checked the FAQ and Errata and it was rubbish. If they are one choice but roll separately what happen to a element if it mishaps? Klaws - don't think you can deepstrike a chimera. Vehicles come on in the normal way.

Supproting evidence? The deepstrike rules stating you roll each units scatter, and the IG book stating th platoon is one FOC choice - note it NEVER states they are one *unit*
If an element mishaps you resolve that mishap and carry on - ALL the platoon rules state is that they turn up together from reserves, i.e. one 4+ roll on turn 2 brings all the platoon in. It does not require that each survives coming in from reserves!

Thanks that was what I was after
the mishap I was worried about was the one about going back into reserve, like you said they all turn up from reserves at the same time, so if one goes back into reserves does that means it dies, the whole platoon goes back or just that unit? i'd assume it was just that unit

You make it sound very complicated.
You roll for reserves platoons at a time. If you succeed to get a platoon from the reserves, you deepstrike them normally one unit at a time. If you roll so that one unit from a platoon goes back to reserves, then one unit goes back to reserves.
Then when the rules allow for you to roll for reserves again, you roll that normally platoons at a time that are in the reserves. That one unit that went back to reserves, is the whole platoon in the reserves. So when you roll for the whole platoon, you roll for the single unit in the reserves, as the other ones are already on the table.

Lol yeah I do.
Sorry its just i've not used deepstrike before and never played planetstrike, I went to FLGS and the guy suggested it would be one scatter for the whole lot meaning 30 plus guys in a tightly packed ball. I said no way and he said to check the FAQ which was not helpful at all.

Platoons are not rolled for in one go either; they are rolled for per unit; there are no special rules to the contrary in the guard codex, and the reserve rules state that each unit is rolled for separately.

You might want to have another look at the Guard Codex... Page 96, directly underneath the Infantry Platoon's Composition line...

KK - that's really not right...its one of the biggest tihngs about Guard!
It's why the mixed platoon + valkyrie squadrons cause so much issue.

Take 3 full sized valkyrie squadrons and 3 platoons, min sized. This gives you 3 units for each platoon, and 3 vehicles to put them in.
If you spread platoon 1 so each uunit A1, A2, A3 is in valkyries A1, B1, C1, and do the same for the other platoons, you end uup with all 3 platoons in all 3 squadrons.
Now, when you roll for reserves EVERY unit of platoon 1 must come on the board at the same time - dragging the other squadrons onto the board, as each squadron must come on in coherency.
If you fail the roll, you then roll for platoon 2s reserves. Which, again, if you suceed, brings every valkyrie squadron and therefore every platoon onto the table.
Repeat for 3 if you fail the 3rd 4+ (or 3+) roll in a row

Double dammit!; I was looking in their description not their unit cost entry; changes some of my tactics.

that's got to be a d'oh moment for you Kel.
If anyone is interested last night had a game of planetstrike at my FLGS, one of the staff tried to argue agains them deepstriking separetly but the Black shirt over ruled him. Told him to go read the codex.

This is at best a horrible stretch of the rules.
It's not really a clear and obvious flow of the rules. It's taking advantage of the fact that the rules don't cover that specific situation, and assuming that this means you can be forced to deploy extra models than would normally be allowed.
Going by GW's usual way of ruling that actions you take now don't allow you to break rules that would apply afterwards, I would think it would be a more rules-based answer to rule that as deploying your units in multiple transport squadrons breaks the normal Reserves rules, you can't actually do it in the first place.
