Subject: new to necromunda thinking van saar?

Hi guys, i'm thinking of starting Necromunda to add some diversity in my gaming world and i'm keen on house van saar, does anyone know where I can peruse a sample new gang list to see what sort of fit out I and points i should go with? I have heard they use a lot of las guns so modelling wise i'm thinking i may use elysian models from forge world. i'm going to try and convince my best mate who also plays 40k to start a gang as well so if anyone has any good arguments that will twist his arm away from WHFB i'd be grateful too, it'll be too hard to play by myself otherwise.
thanks in advance

Van Saar are great, I have a gang of them buried and dusty somewhere. They were one of my favourite gangs for their futuristic suits and clean looking weaponry.
I can't remember how they're different from other gangs as far as 'fit out' goes. I think all points for gangs are mostly the same. What does the source book say? Have you downloaded it from GW's website?

Van Saar are the tech-savvy shooty gang with access to techno on all model.
And they don't have to have lasguns but the GW models do. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also Necromunda does not use "points". It's built for campaign play.
All gangs start with 1000credits to hire the gang and equip them. Win and you'll get more credits to buy better guns and such.

Well a big plus is that it isn't a question of either Necromunda OR WHFB, but you can play both
That way he won't feel so intimidated having to give up fantasy.
Secondly, when we first started playing our group just used 40K figures as proxies. It isn't ideal, but still playable to get a feel for the game before spending time and or money on your gang.
Van Saar are the most techy of the gangs but am not familiar with the Elysians. Thing is though, if that fits your idea of the gang you wish to run it should be fine.
The best arguments I can think of for playing Necromunda, is that it is jolly good fun, and erm... it is jolly good fun.
oh btw did I mention that it is fun?
the games don't last so long, so you can be flexible how it fits with other games systems.
good luck

thanks guys i'm sure glad it's daytime on your side of the world and you're all keen to help out a fellow gamer! I like the idea of quicker games as it takes me and my nerd friends about 5-6 hours for a normal game of 40k (usually because every turn i have to ask what I need to roll to hit him!) but i digress, I think Necromunda is going to be great for me and i've noticed it still has a large support base of players even though it's so old now! i've downloaded the rules from GW but only flicked through so far it's quite a read! i'm sure i'll be pestering this forum with stupid rules questions in a month or two! but thanks again everyone for replying.

Hmm never thought about that aspect Scott.
Partly cos it just seems to get done
Due to the nature of our club I sometimes have to do the income for other players. And to prove I don't cheat I always get better rolls for the kids than myself
eg last time I did the territories for a lad, every single D6/ 2D6 I threw a bloody 6
Why can't I do that for me!?!
Damian,
keep an eye out for rulebooks and source books (campaign part of the game) on ebay
you can get them quite reasonably if you can't print off all the stuff from the PDF

Also there are a lot of rules and add-ons that were in the gang war and firefight magizes. (Or names to that effect)
@Chibi Bodge-Battle, It might just be that we are all cursing our luck and take a long time to decide wheather to buy a rare item that reallly makes it longer for people at my club.

More useful if your friends also sign up to it as well.

As mentioned elsewhere will be using it for the new Autumn campaign Malosar
I would like to convert a themed gang but there is already too much stuff to do.
But as my gang is Delaque am sooo tempted to do a Matrix gang.
My leader will be painted up as Morpheus regardless just because
Apologies if this is too obvious and has been done before.

My friend did exactly that.
Matrix Gang.
Used Heresy miniatures trenchcoat warriors for figs and just modified them.

Thats what I meant. Make a House gang (In this case Van Saar) out of other models.
It stops you having the pay the price tag on the GW miniatures which for single pose metal models isn't really worth it.
And I'd be up for a game, my Escher would love another Van Saar gang to take to tiny peices.

Hey everyone, I'm also thinking about starting Necromunda, is there any place to find all the stuff that isn't on Games Workshop's site, such as the Ash Waste Nomads and vehicle rules?

Thanks a lot! Soo much more than I expected. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry for hijacking this, again, but I was wondering if you really worry about modeling everything on gang members since you'll be upgrading equipment anyways?

that's half the fun! With a small number of models, you can constantly model and reconvert them as they progress. Adding Horrible Scars, removing a few fingers, and stacking more equipment and weaponry on slings around their shoulders is all part of the fun.
|
Run a whole lot of wfrp and other rpg's, play The Woods and Kill Team, gather and look mournfully at imperial guard knowing I'll never finish enough to use them on the tabletop |
