This tournament could be a yearly event.
Think: the top 40K websites, sending there best player(s) to compete against eachother. (theres nothing to worry about... Dakka would win hands down no problem )
so what do you guys think? who would you vote for to represent dakka? obviously this is just a rough outline of the idea, suggestions welcome

This sounds a bit like the ETC, but websites vs websites.
That gets messy, cos websites are worldwide with anyone from a 12 year old to a 84 year old online.
Dakka might win, but a lot of dakka users also use other websites ( I confess I also post on other forums, but dakka is my favourite and first forum ).
You should look up the ETC ( European Team Championship). Its pretty much the world cup of Warhammer right now.

I think that is a cool idea, like teams.
The ETC is awesome but as it is in Europe (and I assume that nirvana69 is talking about a North American tournament since he has an American flag icon) then it would be easier to organize here.
If we had the best North American players (or I guess you could include anyone who was willing to fly) in a site on site smack down, that would be really cool.
I think people could get into it as they sent their best players to rep the website. You could have teams from blogs too.
Cool idea, I would get into it for sure. It would be fun to have a virtual trophy that the site could have to keep until the next year when it got taken over by the next winner.
Then we could prove unequivocally that the best players are on Dakka. I think the only site that could give us a run for our money would be the BoLS guys as they have some legit players on their squad.

Back when Games Day Baltimore was a two-day event, we (The IFL) used to host all night gaming at one of the hotel's across the street. One of the things we included was a Club Challenge, and Dakka (Back in Russ' day) was one of the regular participants. They did win one year (out of the four years it was held). Trophy is currently sitting on a shelf at home, as the IFL won the other three times.....................

We've been tossing about the idea of doing some kind of invitational at next year's NOVACON weekend (which it'll be expanding to, a full convention), and doing a high value cash prize invitational / "hardcore" tournament during the convention ... if we go that route, I could certainly include invites to the "top" suggested player from each site/etc.

I think that would be an easier flag to rally behind as most of us congregate on the web to get news, rumors, talk yang, etc. I associate more with Dakka than my local store because no matter how often I move, or where I roam (and I never stay in one place for long) Dakka is always my home on the web for 40K. I think a lot of people feel that way about their site.
I think it would be fun too, seeing which site had the best players for the year.
Oh, and Nirvana69, Dakka Detachment 2 beat the Wagghh!'s team at the last Adepticon team tournament. It was close, but I think we could take them again.

And the players can campaign and get chosen (at least partially) by votes! That would be super cool We'd have to make sure the judges were neutral though.

"I've missed over 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot . . . and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." The great, Michael Jordan |

idk, it would be something that wed have to take up with the mods... we could vote it down to about 3-5 people whos are dakkas best player, votes could be held. the officail decision should come from the mods, or older more experianced mesures

We'd have to make sure the judges were neutral though.
That's actually the easy part.

Dakka has a LOT of top tier players though, that is the problem.
Actually, most of the best players I know of post primarily on Dakka.
We could also set up multiple teams like our team tournament teams (DD1 and DD2).
And I agree, neutral judges would be the easier part.
I suppose you could have qualifications where players played each other in real life, or on Vassel (although I don't think vassel is such a great equivilant to table top 40K, it is the best we have).
Or, you could go off of tournament rankings instead of voting. Voting would most likely turn into a popularity contest with people who don't know who the best players are just vote for who they like or for who they see posting the most.

I've actually considered putting together a Sprue Posse Invitational Tournament. It would be an invite only event for our top players based on elo rating here:
That could probably give us a Los Angeles area champ anyway.
I haven't decided if I wanna do a Swiss with 8 invites (3 rounds) or a round robin with 4 invites (3 rounds).

ya, the popularity could be a problem.... UNLESS, the players were anoynamous, and they somehow found a way to post there victories, loses, armies, and years played, and whatever else... so you would HAVE to vote for your personal best...
well, if we have the best, we could take about 5 of them, then everyone elses whos good would go and play for another forum they post at, that is, if they get voted in over there...

The 72 pages of people trying to prove their anatomy was bigger than someone elses would certainly give people something to read when bored.
Now if you had a tournament for each site to pick who was on the team, that would be better than who campaigned and yelled the loudest.
