In your opinion, is there a feasible background to Space Marines that have completely dedicated themselves to the Omnissiah? There are the Iron Hands, but they wouldn't really be considered Ad Mech, they seem to be more "in tune" with the machine spirit as opposed to dedicated. I am doing an Ad Mech Space Marine army regardless, but I have always been a sucker for fluff. I don't think I have ever made an army that has really followed the rules, I prefer to turn whats "Warhammerly Correct" so to speak on its end and scratch build some stuff that is pretty out there. I would like opinions/ideas on the matter though - I've always been interested in the mechanicus and would love for GM to come out with them, as unlikely as that is.

O.o. Interesting. Never heard of an all Tech army. That uses robots.

Lots of people use IG rules for their Ad Mech, but I hate playing IG, I'd rather do a SM army with Ad Mech fluff and story line.

Couldnt decide whether this should go in the modeling or background section, but it works for both.

For the Space Marines I've done so far, I've just spliced and diced them, used some necron bits, lots of guitar string, Iron Hands Space Marines and the ad mech torsos/shoulders that you get from tank sprues (had to bits order like 30 of them off some website). Also did a sick conversion that I can't claim complete credit on, I got the idea from someone on here, but made it more my own. Should be posting pics in the next few days.

Anyways, fluff wise: I thought of maybe a group of Iron Hands that had come across Ad Mech, both factions searching for a relic. The Iron Hands then decide to further their understanding of/dedication to the Omnissiah and begin the transformation over to the Ad Mech through replacements of their human form (superhuman form more like) with various augmentations. They then begin studying and worshipping the Omnissiah under Tech Priests. Being dedicated to the Ad Mech, they do various tasks and searches, as well as battles over sacred lands and objects for the Ad Mech because of their military strength and advantage as Space Marines. Sound good so far?

Well there are laws in the Imperium that say "No proper robots." Sadly.

However I can imagine a chapter who has a very high level of Techy recruits and via sending these to mars, became so tied in to the Mechanicum that they came to worship the Omnissiah.

Of course this means they will probably become a renegade chapter when the Omnissiah wakes up and turns out to be the Void Dragon!

This is Daemonic Cheese:

3000 Pts
2500 Pts
1000 Pts (And growing)

I'd put a quote here, but XKCD would have a better one.

Hahaha. It actually may be good if they were renegades, they could still use Space Marine rules, but if i felt like playing a game using them, and the only opponent I had was another SM army, it wouldnt bee too goofy a game fluff wise.

Hey if you read the Thousand Sons. They control robots!
Which i think is completely awesome XD.
They do have humans operate Robots (androids) That were basically space marines except on crack.
I think that you should do that. Except make it so that instead of being in power armor. They are in robot suits.

Yeah I could do that too, but with my background idea, I didnt want them to be robots, just heavily augmented space marines that almost became obsessed with the replacement of their humanity with mechanized pieces, but they never fully become robotic, they still maintain the space marine honour and mentality

Haha no I haven't. I have it in my room somewhere, and I read the first few pages but it didn't really catch my attention. Should I pick it back up again and just grudge through the slow beginning?

(I think I got to the part just after the Emperor shows up, and it goes to a scene where a generator blows up? Its been a while, so excuse my lack of explanation haha)

There's definitely precedence for it with the Iron Hands. There's no reason a chapter couldn't devote itself to the service of Mars. The Iron Hands do it more for selfish reasons that dedicating their belief to the Omnissiah.

The Mentor legion also has close ties to the Ad Mech as they are always outfitted with the latest equipment and are the beta testers for a lot of stuff.

And you should give Mechanicus a fair shot. It's sloooooow to start, but once it does, it gets interesting. Especially if you care about the Ad mech or titans and stuff like that. The big problem with a lot of the HH books is, we know the ending already. There's not a lot of intrigue in where things are going. This book is the same, you know Mars is going to go down the crapper, but the events that transpire and the people/places involved that make it interesting. If you don't like any of the things I mentioned, you probably shouldn't be reading this thread and you probably won't like Mechanicus either.

Alright awesome I will get the book a second go. And yeah I know about the Iron Hands, their the base for my fluff behind my army, I wanted to have a group of Iron Hands that went off on their own and ended up going further into the Mechanicus cult. But as long as it sounds feasible, I can continue with building my army

If you would look at the Mentors chapter, you would find that they are the test subjects for many of the ad mech's new weapons. Not totally ad mech marines but they are still worth a look.

Awesome! Thank you, gives me plenty of ideas for squad compostition in my army. Could either have a Elite Cadre squad of Mentors, or have each squad Sergeant be a Mentor in the white and green color scheme. I still want some Mechanicus looking Space Marines, but the Mentor Legion seem pretty badass

mmm. there are the silver bones [poorly named copy of silver skulls.] they're bionic so have some good stats and some bad ones, but are pretty much tied to rhinos.

They can get in and out of them in the same turn, but the Rhino is part of the squad. [has to stay within coherency, but is otherwise treated as a different unit.]

I'll find joo a link.

Their stats are:

WS4 BS4 S4 T5 W1 I2 A1 Ld10 sv 3+.

they're HQ must be a MOTF.

Sweet, I will look them up too. Already planned on my only HQ being a MOTF, and I wanted to have a Techmarine attatched to each squad, so it will look like I have a Techmarine as a Sergeant. I really wish I had a camera that worked, just picked up some plasticard and did some cool conversion work. Iron Hands box should come in the mail tomorrow, slowly but surely getting this army together, but stats wise the Silver Bones seem pretty good.

Couldn't find silver bones on Lexicanum
