Subject: Rhinos or Razorbacks?

Essentially I'm torn whether to take a storm shield on my terminator librarian or drop the shield in favor of upgrading two of my space marine rhinos to HB razorbacks. To give you an idea, the list looks like this:
Librarian + term armor + SS
Terminator Squad (5) + AC
Terminator Squad (5) + CML
Tac Squad (10) + MG, ML, Rhino
Tac Squad (10) + MG, PC, Rhino
Bike Squad (8) + MGx2, Combi-Melta, MM Attack Bike
Land Speeder Typhoon (2)
I'm not looking for the critique of a list, as I'm aware that's for another forum (though I suppose criticism can never be a bad thing). The main issue is really whether I want to be able to transport my whole tac squad or if I want to constantly have them in combat squads, which I typically like to do anyway but recognize that many people would see this as a bad idea. Also, is the SS on the librarian really THAT worth it? The 3+ invulnerable save is awesome but I'm not sure how often it will come into play. I'm not going to be allocating wounds from high str weapons on him since I don't want him to get insta killed, so its more of a save of last resort.

Razorbacks could be quite beneficial. You would obviously Combat Squad them, having the Melta Guns roll in the Razorbacks, and the Missile Launcher and Plasma Cannon foot-slog, or else find a Vantage Point and start working their magic! You also have the Bikes and Land Speeders to take the fight to them quickly, so I think Razorbacks would be better.

I disagree. You have only 4 vehicles there. Most armies of that size will be able to destroy them quickly, so putting more points in the rhinos which will get close to your opponents is probably a bad idea. Stick with the rhinos IMO.
edit: Also, the librarian can take plasma gun/cannon hits with the storm shield.

I only use Razorbacks. For only five more points the heavy bolter is good enough to justify it.
I do only use them for combat sqauds so the capacity of a rhino would be kinda wasted.

I run a razorback heavy list. Except Common problem is. If your in a big game. Everyone targets them. Which i don't understand at all. While I had a Sternguard squad murder a Death Company and Land Raiders.

Sinking an extra 5 points into the tank isn't exactly a huge point investment. You have a good point about the SS being able to block plasma though.

Right its not huge, but when your opportunity cost is making your librarian more frail, then its too high IMO. I use a libby in TDA and SS too, and the 3++ save has served extremely well.

It all depends on whether you would prefer to have combat squads or full squads. Personally, I run a mix of rhinos and razorbacks, though I generally use my razorbacks for squads worth more than tac squads.
For 5 points to upgrade from a rhino to razorback with HB, I'd say go for it, as long as you like combat squads.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space. |
