Hey all, do you think that an orks speed freeks army is worth dishing out the extra cash to but bikes/trukks/buggies/deffkoptas? And would it really slow down the enemy or lock them into assault as theorized well?

Speed freaks armies are great.

Save yourself a lot of real world $$$ though. Instead of buying a ton of expensive models for truuks and battlewagons go to your nearest Toys R' Us store. Go find the kids section with plastic truuks of various sizes. Go in person so you make sure to get the right size of truuk.
For the cost of one GW battlewagon you should be able to get all the truuks you need. Small trucks for truuks, and big truuks for battlewagons.

Take them home. Spraypaint them red if desired. Paint and attach orks as drivers. Throw on lots of orky bits you picked up in bit bins or on ebay.

Now you have a cheap, colorful speek freak army. The best part is alll the wheels move, unlike the GW verison!

Make sure to paint your yellow pick-ups red! No speed freak would be seen dead in a green 'John Deere Pullback Treads Thrashers Dump Truck - 4 Inches'.

Yup, I did much the same thing - bought a bunch of plastic toy tractors at the five-and-dime for two dollars each, unscrewed the tractor super-structure from the chassis, and then built up a truck bed and driver's cupola with various types of regular and textured plasticard. I figure each trukk cost me about five bucks to buy and make - and they don't look bad at all!

Orky stuff is a converter's friend. It's supposed to look bashed-together!

Alles klar, eh, Kommissar?

there is a speed freaks player in my area who has been almost unbeatable with that army for years. I couldnt say exactly how he does it since I dont play him very often, but I know that a canny player can make them into a very dangerous force.

Ok thanks for the money saving tips. i believe that I should be able to make some easy trukks as you guys demonstrated. But what about warbikes...

Bikes are tricky. You'll pretty much have to buy GW for those, or build completely from scratch, as motorcycle toys are hard to find in the proper size.

You can easily convert plastic Deffkoptas to Warbikes, though, just remove the armature of the 'copter blades, part of the tailfin, then add wheels from any GW model with some tubing to hold them in place. Saw off the front of the TL rokkits and attach Shootas to make the guns, and that's pretty much it. Sure there's a tutorial around here somewhere.

Bear in mind that I'm a very casual player, and any advice I give will reflect that tendency.
