As a rabid Dark Angels player, I want to get Cypher... not just in the game, but the actual mini (while its available). However, the ruled for him dried up in 3rd edition, when fluff was actually important to gameplay, rather than to fill out the books.

I was wondering, would Cypher's stats (which I know I can't divulge here) be usable in the current game? even though he'd be in there for friendly games, would he be a usable option for Chaos, or just some other target that I just spent $15 on?

I think his stats would be junk compared to some of the new guys. Are you talking pre-fallen angel cypher for your DA army?

no, my buddy has a 2,500 point Chaos army and we want to put him in there for a fun "hunt the fallen" game, using the old 2nd edition rule for the Dark Angels. nothing official, just fun.

Than by all means man throw him in! I started picking up some DA stuff back in the day and I still have my Cypher. The only things he is missing are his guns. I have the backpack too. I thought he was a really cool character and I still do. If your buddy is going to use him than maybe he can attach him to a squad of fallen angels just to make it that much better

his stats are perfectly playable with a bit of common sense. in 3rd edition, you could rapid fire (fire off two shots) with pistols and that's where cypher's stats come from. he has a special rule where he can rapid fire both pistols IIRC; just simply allow him to fire off 2 shots with the bolt pistol and 2 with the plasma. other than that, i can't recall any problems with his statline or rules going into this edition. to be honest, he's not worth his points IMO. cool model, though...

cool. and yes, he is a cool model, another reason I want to get him.

I didn't care for the Cypher model, I made my own from Brother Bethor long before they produced it anyway

I've thought about using a tzeentch lord w/ deamon weapon as cypher before. Could work if you're afraid of him being outdated or underpowered.

Why not use Abbadon's rules as he is very beastly.

probably because they're nothing alight. abaddon is a marine with ridiculously good stats tailored for close combat in terminator armor on a 40mm base while cypher is a gunslinger with a plasma pistol on a regular infantry base with a sword on his back that he NEVER uses per the fluff. if you're going to do a counts as, i'd ideally choose a shooty chaos marine special character... since there is none, i'd say go with kharn. he's still close combat oriented but at least he's WYSIWIG to the cypher model (power weapon, plasma pistol, power armor).

Khârn? I'd have to go with The Frying Dutchman and his Tzeentch Lord. Still not quite right though. The main special rules around Cypher were that he's extremely hard to kill and he can shoot two pistols.

Homebrew it? Hunt the Fallen was a great scenario.
