Hello all!

I am currently on holiday and thus decided I would read through the first space wolf omnibus and I have loved it. I have loved it so much in fact that I now want to get my own Ragnar, but sadly the gw one isn't all that good. I have seen all the posts on here and have decided to get a box of ten blood claws and get a good base out of that. My only concern is making the wolf pelt over his right shoulder. I have very little experience with green stuff and doubt I would be able to satisfy my eyes with what I could create. I was tempted to get the metal ranger and cut his right should off but cutting through metal is no fun. So any advice or tips that anyone could offer would be great. Thanks!

This was highly unlikely, but there actually was a thread on this subject a while back:

Yep saw that thread. That gave me the idea for the box of ten. I was looking more for specific advice on the shoulder and people didn't seem to be too keen on gravedigging threads.

No one in your local group would consider sculpting it for you?

I'm assuming you want a pelt like the white one about 1/5th down the linked thread...

A pelt like that ^, actually shouldn't be TOO hard to sculpt, even for a beginner... I'd start with something like Mighty Putty to get a quick curing base to work off of (because layering GS would take a long time to bulk up like that) then you could just layer up a bit of GS and poke and drag with a lubricated needle to get the fur texture. You'd just need to be patient with the fingers and claws. Sculpt the fingers first, with dimples where the claws will go, let it cure, then come back for the claws the next day.

Then, if you get better in the future, the Mighty putty would break off pretty easily and you could re-do it without much repair work!

Edit because I'm stupid...

Thanks for the tip stokle. I think before I try that I'm going to use the pelt from the torso back from the wolfguard sprue that you get with the nice wolf head back pack. I think that if I apply a little het to it I should be able to bend it. Next challenge is painting fur and winning the eBay bid to get the sprue on the cheap. Sadly I doubt there's a guide for the latter on dakka.

There's a torso on the new SW sprue that kinda resembles Ragnar's belt.

And if you sacrifice one of the wolf head backpack; with some minor GS work you can emulate his adorned pauldron.

You could make one if it turns out well.
