Can a character on a Monsterous beast join a unit?

I asked a friend to look through the Rulebook and he says that, a Character riding a Monsterous beast mount counts as Monsterous Cavalry. Which have nothing to do with joining units, just all the stomps and stuff?
And under the Joining unit rules it just says you cannot join a unit if you are on a monster, are a monster or on a chariot.
Monsterous beasts are not Monsters or Chariots?

So unless we are missing something, I can assume that for example, A sorceress on a dark pegasus can join a unit of spearmen?

Thanks !

A Pegasus is a fly unit, so he can't join a unit because of the fly rules. The most common monstruous cavalery is the Juggernaut. I take by example an Herald of Khorne mount on a Juggernaut can join a unit of Bloodletters. It's not said you can't join a unit of infantry, if i'm wrong. I use to play like that on the last edition without any problem. The only thing you can't join is if you are a chariot or a monster (the only execption i know are the chariot of the Khemri army). A normal Black Orc Big Boss mount on a boar can join a unit of Orc infantry, even a regiment of gobelns and a gobelin hero can join a unit of Troll for another exemple.

Grrr.... Cheese make me fart...

Thought it said that Flyers can join non-flyers. But no one can join a fly unit? (this is what he told me when checking his rulebook)

Hopefully so! really wanted to break the game by putting morathi in a unit of spearmen lol.

But good for the other monsterous cavalry then ^_^

Monstrous Infantry, Monstrous Cavalry and Monstrous Beasts are not Monsters. It's just like how Cavalry with Fly are not Flying Cavalry.

There's even a nice note on page 105 pointing out that the rules for Ridden Monsters doesn't apply to monstrous cavalry mounts.

Qcbob - you're thinking of 7th ed, fairly sure mounts with "fly" can join infantry now.

Yes, you can join your monstrous mount to the unit, however note that you DO NOT get a LOS! roll if the unit is not also the same type as you.

I'd love to see morathi in a unit of spearman, 4 bolt throwers and 2 stone throwers later and she will regret that decision....

Some people sure are slow to react to the changes. Yes, Dark Pegasus can join units now but won't benefit from any look out sir.

To be fair there are a LOT of changes to get through, some are more subtle as well - easy to assume nothing has changed when it has; certainly los! was a surprise to see it going back to 6th ed.

nos, bolt throwers still won't do much to her, the controlling player gets to allocate. If one bolt, then they will allocate to another model.

Hell yeah. I read this forum just to remember all the stuff I forgot. There's so many rules that just have maybe one sentence here or there, but have a big effect on gameplay.

OK, cannon....but you get the idea.

Why are bolt throwers or cannons any more dangerous then having her on her own?

Wasen't looking for the LOS rule, her 4+ ward should be enough. it was more the give her sacrifical dagger and Cast every spell with atleast a 6 rolled on the Power dice generator (can do with less if your opponent lets you get off Power of darkness)

Then additional power dice can be given to a lvl 2 or so. Maximum power with minimal dice

Whether it will work or not i aim to find out!

Thank you for the replies

Because you can more easily hide a single model on pegasus than you can hide a unit with said character in. Meaning more shots can be directed her way, increasing the chances of her taking D6 wounds.
