Hi, I was wondering if anyone online can help me with a modelling problem. I've got some forgeworld rifles, and as I'd been told to expect, msot of them arrived more or less bent out of shape. I looked up some info, and use the following method to straighten them:
Get one mug boiled water, and one mug cold. Drop the resin rifle into the boiled water for 1 min, then take it out, straighten it, drop in cold water. Take it out of the cold water a few seconds later.
Despite this process, some of the rifles seem to revert to their bent shape. I always notice this a day or so later when I'm assembling the models, and it is really aggravating. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Don't dunk it in cold water maybe? Let it cool more gradually into the shape you want?

Yeah, I never have heard of using the cold water part.
Just put it in the hot water for a moment, and then pull it out. Straighten as needed, and just hold it for a few seconds. When it dries it will stay in that position.

ok you need to Heat it slowly, and then let it cool naturally, so use two softvices to hold in place

Oh, I see, no cold water. And how long do I need to hold it for after straightening? Just a minute or 2 I hope.

I heat resin with a hairdryer and then quench/set the piece with water from the tap.
It's always worked for me.

Huh, I've been boiling water, pouring a mugful, and almost immediately starting dunking resin pieces. Hasn't messed anything up so far. In any case, I'm going to try holding the pieces in shape and letting them set naturally. So, problem solved. Thank you, oh omniscient internet!

Hot (not boiling) water works just as quickly.
The trick is you have to reshape it slowly and carefully else you might have issues with the bubbles inside the castings (FW do NOT pressure cast and do have these issues quite commonly).

I . . . I have no idea what that image means or who it refers to. Am I the epic fail guy? Are you? Is it just a commentary on the state of the internet? Thankyou for your help, anyway, although I note it didn't take the form of any advice about resin.
(Wait, is that the joke? That you said 'you're welcome' despite not having given advice?)
I'm just so confused.

Good luck with your work, sir. Let us know if you have more problems, we're getting pretty good around here fixing FW's lack of workmanship and knowing what kit is messed up where.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.
