I seem to recall once upon a time that there was an article on the GW site about human auxiliaries for the Tau, but I can't find it. Am I just incredibly stupid this morning (always a possibility, check my sig) or is it gone? Could someone please point me in the right direction to find this information?

Thank you!

They had rules in Chapter Approved if I recall correctly. You could just have them count as Fire Warriors or Pathfinders or something.

They have a human statline and weapons (i.e.lasgun) but the squad leader can be upgraded to have a pulse rifle and the whole squad can carry EMP grenades.

It was chapter approved and got left out of the 4e codex. I don't remember the points cost.

Alternatively, model human figures and give them Tau Fire Warrior stats and costs, just for the look.

I thank you all for helping me out with this. I think this squad would be very fluffy to include in a Tau force.

Now technically this is incorrect, since normally humans are WS3 and I3 IIRC, but think about this: these humans have been living among the Tau for several generations... might they not adopt Tau ideology and Tau tactics? Might they not hate close combat just as much as your average Tau?

They could be arguably WS2 and I2, just like Tau.

Still S3, of course, but so are FW.

couldnt you also make a case that since they live on the western edge that they are fighting orks so CC would still have importance

Tau fight Orks all the time without having to resort to close combat.

Farsight is about the only Tau who actually decided to pick up a blade and adopt an assault-based combat doctrine when up against Orks, but there are plenty of Vior'la, Sa'cea and Tash'var Tau who fight Orks on a regular basis, and are just as bad at melee combat as Dal'yth and T'au Fire Warriors who have never seen an Ork in their life.

I've seen their rules, and I'm fairly certain it said nothing about taking platoons of them, only individual squads, like Fire Warriors.

Then you need to look harder. Several links have been posted in THIS THREAD.

Awesome. I had the same memory of Gue'vesa as the OP (I assume) and have been looking for awhile now. This is the exact article I read years ago. Thanks.

I didn't even know GW had their old site archived. Now I can go searching for the old stuff I remember.

The point is there are two ways of taking Gue'vesa'la in a Tau army.

The easy way is to use human models with Tau stats and costs and a bit of conversion -- this would be completely fair as it would not bias the game in any way.

The other way is to dig up the 3rd edition ruels for which a link was given by idget above. The difficulty with this is your opponents may not accept these old rules as they are not in the current codex.

The codex isn't the end-all-be-all source of information on a faction. Lots of material exists outside of the codex, you should read some of it.

The CSM and Chaos Daemons codex don't have stats for Traitor Guard or Chaos cultists (they don't), does that mean they don't exist?

If the Eldar codex doesn't reference Craftworld Zahr-Tann (it doesn't), does that mean it doesn't exist?

...seriously? I mean, I'm sorry, but are you honestly that dense? The stats have been linked twice in this very thread, and I even had to say so to another person in this very thread who also couldn't figure that out.

All on this same goddamn page.

And there's only ONE page in this thread so far.

You can't possibly be confused. It can't be done.

Come on, man. Get with it.

Wow. I asked for the reference, and you guys delivered in spades. Some great discussion, some pics of conversions, and some people who just seem... unclear on the concept of links. Anyways, when the time comes, I plan on having a few squads of these guys just for friendly games.

Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure the official term is gue'sava, and yes, they are humans who have joined the Tau empire. Just an Idea on how to play them would be to use the rules of conscripts from the IG to represent that they use weapons meant for humans, and their morale is lower due to fear of the emperor/not as much religious fanaticism to get behind.

I haven't looked at my codex for a while, as I've been traveling, but aren't the Tau four fingered? Wouldn't it be hard for a hum to use a pulse rifle?

As opposed to what? The term "Gue'vesa" and "Gue'vesa'la has been used pretty liberally in this thread. And they are human auxiliaries to the Tau Empire. I'm not sure what you're objecting to here.

micahaphone wrote:I haven't looked at my codex for a while, as I've been traveling, but aren't the Tau four fingered? Wouldn't it be hard for a hum to use a pulse rifle?

What does the number of fingers have to do with pulling a trigger? A four-fingered man can fire a modern handgun just as easily as a five-fingered man, assuming the missing finger isn't his trigger finger - and even then it isn't particularly difficult.

Besides, their official rules say the Gue'vesa'ui can use a pulse rifle.
