Hi, I had a recent battle where my oponent used old and new rules for Black templar [borrowing from mine...]

Of course, being an easy going gamer, I accepted.

how do other people respond to this kind of rules change?

Drop pod rules old, land raider rules new. [probably some newer ones too] and extra armour being 1+ on all sides.

Tell them to chose one iteration of rules or neither. You can't just grab all the ones that benefit you and mush them together.

Agreed. Tell him to stop cheating (politely) and offer to teach him the new rules if he's unsure of them.

It's not cheating if the both players agree to play that way.

And I don't think the issue was so much with not knowing the new rules as with using an old codex and cherry-picking the parts out of the newer Marine codex that have been updated and improved from how they were when the BT codex was printed. That was my impression from Solon's post, anyway.


In which case, it's not an uncommon way to play it. BT's and Dark Angels have been somewhat left behind by the advancements granted to Codex Marines and Space Wolves. Although I would suggest that being consistent with it is the key... if you're going to use the newer version of the Land Raider, you should be using the newer Drop Pod rules as well, not choosing one from one book and one from the other. Just my 2c... if you're happy letting him choose which bits he wants to update, it's your game.

The GERMAN Black Templar FAQ says the new land raider rules are in effect.

Would you punish someone for GW not updating that rule across the board?

EDIT: it actually says German/English codex just before the errata for the rule. So he technically should be able to, no?
