I am pretty new to this (Have yet to actually buy the army I want) but I got the free SM from GW ( Because I am a free loader >< )

Well anyways, I attempted a Desert Camo without any prior painting experience, and this is what I got so far..

It was pre based black, I ewnt over with white, then combined a brown and white to get a lighter tanish covered it, then did strips of random browns, and white then made a really watered down brown of 1 part paint to 9 parts water and went over it with that ><

Pretty proud of myself on my first try

Lol thanks, yeah he is incomplete, I had just finished the camo when I took the pics. The camera doesn't take clear enough pics for it to look like it really does, but in real life it resembles some sort of melted ice cream ><

Ill get the finished pics up sometime tomorrow after i finish my Tau wannabe ><

I know you said he wasn't done but what else do you plan on doing with him? He looks like he was based is about all, the details really need to bu pulled out like shading the gun a different color at least so it stands out.

Nothing currently, got out of the hobby, maybe getting back in?

Hey, try adding a wash to your marine, it helps add depth and shading and is really simple to use - if you use GW's paints try gryphonne sepia (paint it generously in the nooks of the model, such as the pipe things behind the knee). Nice first try at painting as well.

Paint Space Marines if you like them, because believe me, liking your army is the BEST thing to keep you motivated to finish your army!

The lighting in the picture makes the camo kind of hard to see, but I think it is achieving what true camo is meant to: It makes him blend in with his surroundings. I don't know for sure, but I think that more striking and less realistic color choices would make the model's features stand out more (defeating the purpose of the camo...). I haven't seen a camo marine in a long time, nowadays they are all bright colors or the other side, very dark and intimidating looking...

Anyways, thanks for sharing your painting with us! Please show us more, and share your tau too! Wishing you many years of enjoying the hobby!

Yeah the Space Marines don't really do camo, but the scheme looks to be ok and could easily be applied to SM scouts or to IG.

Looking at the pics I'd also thin your paints a little as the camo looks a little too caked on. Don't take this the wrong way but it looks to have the texture of applied camo, like mud etc, not painted camo. You've shown great technique but chosen the wrong model to demonstrate.

No Grimey, you can't take the titan for a spin so stop humping it's toe!

Lol to the people saying don't do SM, as I said I just got it for free from GW, Truthfully I hate SM. I am going with a Tau army

Ill finish the marine after work, I am actually using 10 year old paints I found in the basement. (Being only 16 my mother got them when I was 6 so I knew they were there, just didn't know if they would work.)

They have proved to be a little thick, but I water them down slightly, probably not enough. Ill try making a wash, any tips on that?

and thanks Grimeyone, Mud is better than I think it looks >< His name on my blog for a local gaming club is "The Poop Master" ><

You need to make sure your camo blotches are more defined. Right now they look fairly thin and uncontrolled, which makes them look really weak. I shouldn't be able to see the color beneath through the camo! They also just look like random paintbrush swings instead of actual camo blotches. Check the pants on these Kommandos I painted for reference:

After all the camo is applied, wash the model with Devlan Mud. Don't try to make your own wash, since Devlan Mud is basically talent in a bottle. It's easier just to spend the 3 bucks and buy it from GW.

Ok.. Ill try that more on my Tau when I get them..
Ill buy some washes, and paints next time I go to GW.

Yeah I tried making it more random than thought out >< Didn't go so well.. But practice makes perfect I guess..

The colors I used for my camo were Bleached Bone, Graveyard Earth, and Scorched Brown, with a Devlan Mud wash. It's good to choose colors that are in the same range but not too close together. A friend of mine has his desert Marines painted with Kommando Khaki and Bleached Bone, and once he gets a wash on them it all just looks like one color. Just use your eye to judge the colors and you should be pretty well off!

Bounding Black Templar Assault Marine

Crusading deep in the Eastern Fringe.

The uniforms of the Imperial Guard are camouflaged in order to protect their wearers by hiding them from sight. The principle is that what the enemy cannot see he cannot kill. This is not the way of the Adeptus Astartes. A Space Marine’s armour is bright with heraldry that proclaims his devotion to his Chapter and the beloved Emperor of Mankind. Our principle is that what the enemy can see, he will soon learn to fear…

Other than that little detail, it looks pretty good. As previously stated before though, the camouflage is very.... blurred together. More defined blotches of camo might seem counter-intuitive at first, but after hitting it with a wash of Devlan Miracle, it should be just fine.

No pity!
No remorse!
No fear!

Ok ^_^,

I used some black on the gun, then wiped it off thinking I messed up, then it turned out ok >< did Red eyes just because it looked cool. Don't know what would be a good trim.

I dont have any GW paints, but when my friend's dad does a GW run (He works 2 blocks away from the local one >< Ill get him to pick me up some things.. So any suggestions on what paints I should buy? (I am doing a Tau army), and what color to finish up my one SM? xD
