rough list i had a pred, reg term squad with assault cannon one more tac squad two assault squads, sicarious, commander, command squad, calgar and honor guard, 3 scout squads one with ml and powerfist one dev squad and a rhino

No point taking both Calgar, Sicarius and an extra commander. Besides, you're only allowed two HQ units, so you'll have to drop at least one

Ok this is my first post and such...just popped my cherry, you should be proud. If you are playing against Orks, I think you should just have a flamer and a rocket launcher in your tactical squads. Put the Chaplin in with Lighting Claw terms...no thunder hammers at all. Sternguard is a waste...points and guns are not needed. Swap them out for a devastator squad with three rocket launchers and one las. Add and heavy flamer to the dread.

Only swap the thunder hammers for lightning claws if you know he doesn't use nobs or meganobs. Otherwise you need the hammers to instant death them.

Your list seems pretty light, but if you're just starting out, then you'll have plenty of time to expand it.

One thing against Orks and other horde-like armies are that they tend to be weaker in the Saves Department.

Template and Blast weapons are the most effective, so definitely hang onto your Flamers and Missile Launchers.

Sternguard can be extremely effective against these kinds of armies as well, since they have so many choices in ammunition. In your case, Hellfire rounds are the ones you'd be using the most. And if you're going to use Combi-weapons, avoid Plasma, and use the Flamer and Melta Combi's instead.

If your Chaplain is in Terminator Armor, you can also give him 1 combi weapon as well. For 5 points, a Combi-Flamer would work great against Orks.

And lastly, give your Dreadnought Extra Armor, especially if you plan for it to go into melee.

Do you have a power armored Chap? If so, then he's better than the T-armored one. Bolt Pistol + Crozius means another attack in h2h that ignores armor, whereas the T-armor plus StormBolter means one less; the SB's shot doesn't ignore armor. Power armor comes with grenades and ability to SweepAdvance. Not so for T-armor. He already has a better invuln save. Only thing you lose is T-Armor's great save.

I have the T-Armored Chap model ... one of my best paint jobs early on, and it had some memorable moments. But for now, with this Codex:SM, he's a display piece. The other one, Asmodai, gets the call of duty.

As its job is to deliver termies, give it EA to ensure that. And the extra Multi-melta is totally worth it.

ya im sorry i have three tac squads each sergeant has a power toy and either storm bolter or plasma pistol and i mostly use thunder hammers because i always see alot of nobz and i have more models thats what i just usualy play with including a pred with autocannon and las cannons on sponsons

if you're playing at 1500 you've got 200 points spare. if you're at 1200 you're 100 over.

Critique:

Chaplain with Terminators is fine. Give him Digital Weapons to make him really bring the pain.

Close Combat Terminators should be TH/SS since Orks either bring super weedy weapons in large numbers, or REALLY hurty weapons in small packs.

Land Raider Crusader.....absolutely fine. Give it a multi-melta to give it anti-armour punch

Sternguard. I've given them Combi-Meltas. I think you're basically giving them tank hunting duty? This is fine, but you're spending an awful lot on 5 guys in power armour when you could take a dedictated melta tac squad for only 30 points more.

Dreadnought.
Assault Cannon is fine. Mow down lots of orks. but keep him in cover.

Tac Squads.
You don't have enough of them. Against orks bolters count. Taking a multi-melta in a tac squad against orks is not worth it. take a plasma cannon or missile launcher in both.
Plasma Gun......change to flamer and give your sergeant a combi-plasma if you're worried about tough units assaulting you.

Should all be in Rhinos to give you armour protection and also cover when deployed.

This really all depends on what your points limit is. if it's 1200 you need to say goodbye to your dreadnought. If it's 1500 you could take another tac squad with bolters, flamer and missile launcher and a rhino (you'd only be 5 points over).

I would loose the plasma on one of the tac squads for a flamer. Then use the extra points to give your dread a heavy flamer

I'm not seeing any devastator squad in this list.......

Personally I think you need more long range. And I agree with Rogukiel that you should switch plasma for flamer and give Dread a Heavy Flamer instead of Storm Bolter.

Take a Dev squad with 4 ML and 3 extra body bags (198 points) to give you some more firepower.

Librarians can't take Digital Weapons

He's either a Chaplain or Librarian! you can't take him as both lol

Going through what you have....

Sternguard......are ok....

You have a CC Terminator squad and a terminator squad. Use them. CC terminator squad in land raider, and if you don't have a second land raider then deep strike the terminator squad in to bring some pain.

Consider changing assault cannon for heavy flamer on terminator squad.

Assault squads could be an interesting "speed bump"


Tell you what. Do a list with EVERYTHING you can fit in (apart from Calgar, Sicarius and Command Squad cause they;re bum).
See how much the points are.
Then start chopping.
