Just a quick question before I start buying up my next army... is there an option for IG grunts to run with pistol/ccw like in the older codex? I am doing a renegade army of beastmen/guardsmen and wanted to creat a few blob squads of hth fighters. Thanks for any help, I always tend to start the models before buying the codex... crazy I know.

Penal guys? They only come in 10 man individual units though right?

I think the penal legion can get a boost in CC but that a 1 in three chance

So if I create my beastmen with pistols/ccw the only thing they can be used as (while being WYSIWYG) is penal legion? Must brainstorm further... (and get the codex at the LGS tomorrow).

I dont have a IG codex on me at the moment but the last time I had cheacked, penal legion even with the CC boost have lasguns(some one who has the IG codex could you post what the CC boost is?)

Penal squads come with a close combat weapon, but only the custodian had a laspistol. Just checked

The penal legion CC boost is either Rending and an extra CCW(along with the CCW and Lasgun), or Counter attack, furious Charge, and Fleet.

All three abilities(the 2 CC and the Assault 2 Lasguns) are randomly determined though.

All of the Penal Legion rolls are good. It's actually pretty fun to make an entire army out of them

One thing that you can do is in CCS and PCS squads, you can swap out any number of lasguns for laspistols. That's not an entire army, but it gets you closer to your goal.

Well it looks like this one has been well answered. That's a good job. I wasn't sure myself until reading the thread.

Psyker Battle Squads also have CCW/Laspistol. Now, it's useless without Straken(and almost useless with him) because they're only strength 2.
