Hi all,
I need some help as i am looking at geting into Fantasy due to the new rules and i was wondering what army i should try as my first Fantasy army.
What's a good army to use.
I have three main ones i was interested in,
1)Dwarves, coz they are hard as nails and have an obscene amount of firepower
2) High Elves, coz they get always strike first and re-roll the misses, due to generally higher initiative
3)Lizardmen, coz i love Aztecs and their background is so badass.
Which one of the above, or any other for that matter, would be the best for someone whose olny played 40k before?
Cheers,

Another thing that most people consider is cost. For Lizard men all you need is two battalions and a Slann-Mage priest and you can make a 2000 point army list. That's only $221.25 and if purchased at the standard 20% off online that's a reasonable 177 for a very playable army at a modest points costs.
High Elves become more attractive because of Skull Pass. Their models in general look like gak (especially the ancient core ones) and that has to be a big consideration. Perhaps another thing to consider is your local meta. If 4/10 of the people who play in your local club play Dwarves, perhaps you'll want to try another army.
Obviously these threads are tough because you're asking someone to project their opinion on you, but I'd say High Elves. They're Island of Blood models look fantastic and will be cheap, and their getting new models soon as well. They are effective, elite, and will be getting some excellent new models as well. Not to mention the current heroes, special and rare choices look solid, if the horses in general look stunted.

I agree with eNvY, really depends on personal taste (all three armies are solid choices for 8th).
It will come down to Cost, Look of the Models (because you will be painting so many of them), Rules and the local Meta.

I definately recommend collecting something that you enjoy building/painting and contributes something to your local gaming group.
Lots of unusual lists you can do with Lizardmen, get crazy!

High Elves will be getting new boxes in the fall in addition to the models that come out with the starter set. In the starter set you're getting some lothern sea guard, swordmasters, and ellyrian reavers. The plastic boxes coming out are highly rumored to be white lions, phoenix guard, dragon princes, and I believe a set. So you've got some great options soon, and if you like the look of the starter set models, these will probably be even better.
They're all good options, imho! Blackbone has a great point, too- it's always fun to start something that isn't played commonly in your local group. It will make you a popular opponent

Thanks everyone,
I dont really have any local fantasy players in my area, all of my mates are into 40k, but due to the new rules, their thoughts have been shifting to fantasy.
I was wondering what the play style was like for each army and i am not overly worried about price, i mean, i have 120 orks, so money is not to big of a problem. That said i am not looking for another horde army as there are only so many models a guy can paint.
So, i am currently leaning to Dwarves as i heard that magic got nerfed hard and as the dwarves have no reliance on magic, they seem like a good place. Has magic really got nerfed or is it still pretty strong?
I am planning on getting a "Tale of Four Gamers" style thing going with my friends and they are looking at Empire, Vampire Counts and Skaven.
Thanks again and if you could tell me what theplay styles are like and how bad magic got nerfed, that would be great.
Cheers, Old Sledgeaxe

I'd say magic is strong this edition but not without its risks. Though dwarfs are still kings of shutting down enemy magic phases. Their anvil of doom is also fun to use. As are their solid troops and elite troops.
