Do you know that exactly?

What other games do you play? Are they okay with them?

Take to them, one at a time, and take your time. Tell them why you like it. *shrugs*

Don't try to tell everyone at once or else you'll get ganged up on.

I went from Warhammer when I was a little cruddler into D&D, I also got stoned a lot, then, much later on, I can back to the Warhammer fold...

Actually, that's missing a part, I actually started out playing a warhammer fantasy game, similiar to D&D...I don't think that exists anymore though!

Believe it or not, I was always open about playing D&D at school, heck, I even played it in class sometimes...ah, the solo quest...

There were even a couple of girls in our group of friends that got into it pretty heavily for awhile.

Just don't be one of those players that gets too into it, don't make any paper mache maces or wear t shirts saying Dungeon Master on them.

People will always pick on people that do different things at school, invariably, because they are either insecure about themselves, or because secretly they are curious about it themselves.

When I was in school I'd play D&D and get stoned at the same time.

I didnt know that getting stoned while playing D&D was a bad thing.

Seriously though, D&D is one of those games that alot more people play then you think. Start playing it and you just might be suprised about who you meet.

Keep it a secret, don't let anyone know not even your closest friends and relatives. Better yet don't do it you must not let anyone think you're a nerd, no matter who costly.

(In all seriousness though do whatever you want, don't let other peoples opinions affect you)

Really, it just comes down to deciding at what point in life you're going to grow a sack.

If you care that much about what other people think, you need to turn your thoughts inward and get your head on straight.

I've been playing some form of D&D since I was a wee lad (29 years this Sept). I never gave a rip what other people thought, and I was better off for it! Granted, I had the benefit of being the guy you really didn't go looking for a fight with, unless you were up for a heck of a challenge... regardless, though, it wouldn't have changed my point of view, though.

Decide what's more important. Self respect and standing up for yourself or trying to be as insignificant as possible & hiding in your basement.

Sage advice here, seriously.

It applies to all aspects of life too, not just the silly little hobbies we love so much!

myself and my regular opponent play 40k in secret =) its easier then trying to explain why 2 grown men want to play with toy soldiers. I swear my firends must think Im doing nothing but punishing my unit at home! whenever they knock on my door I always have to yell at them to give me a minute as I quickly hide any models im working on.

Just as a side note I went around to my lil bros house the other day knocked on the door and got the reply "give me bout 10 mins im jacking off" And first thing I thought to myself is that he must be playing 40k too

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

If they can't accept you for who you are, then they aren't true friends.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Nah Ive been lucky and have alot of great friends and its not like they would disown me or anything stupid like that but they would give me a hell of a time about it. With my mates its very much an alpha male fighting for supremacy sorta thing so anything we have on each other we will be used against that person mercilessly.

However every time ive needed da boyz they have come thru for me I just dont wanna give em any ammo

That's when you tell them that "Sure, you can use this against me, but at least I'M MAN ENOUGH to still play around every once in a while."

I did that once and was not all that impressed.

They didn't make us (the family and I) feel unwelcome, but they didn't make us feel welcome either.

My feelings toward it were decidedly "meh"

As for the OP, I say go for it, considering the trouble I have finding people who play DnD around where I live I'm rather jealous of your predicament

I would suggest you get a weight set and perhaps do some martial arts.
If they give you verbal grief - so what? But if they touch you, destroy them (if they want to get physical they will find another reason to start even if they don't know about the role-play so you may as well face up to it).
