Oh the hilarium and soul crushing sadness that comes from the same source. These projects are really funny until you realize they are being paid for with US tax dollars.

There's a reason Congress's and Obama's approvals are at record lows. Now you see it.

The only things on that list that I find truly odd are the one's that involve spending on things that are overseas, or related to existing programs. Everything else falls in line with the nature of stimulus.

So a stupid government policy (the CRA) is best remedied with more stupid government policies and spending? This is above partisan politics, it's a call for some common sense.

i c wat you did thar

As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time.

God, why didn't we think of it before?! Clearly the awesome power of 'common sense' will solve all our problems.

This is pretty standard Keynsian economics, if the private sector isn't willing the create jobs, then the public sector will. In case you hadn't noticed, there are a lot of people without work and not enough jobs to go around. For every open job that exists, there are 6 unemployed people(link).

Yeah, this problem is beyond partisan politics, and to show how bad its got I'm going to link to a Republican press release!

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

Now I believe that the stimulus money was wasted. in all honesty 1930s WPA work projects style spending would have had a two fold effect on our nation. First, offer government constuction and public works clean up jobs at 12.50 an hour with government benefits such as health insurence. The money would have gone directly from the treasury to workers and suppliers thus keeping people off the unemployment lines and money flowing right back into the local economy thus fueling local private business growth.

Next, the with the repair and constuction the infrastructure of the nation would have been repair and in good working order for the next twenty to thirty years. This would save money in the long run.

It is a proven fact that once workers have been off from work for more than a year they are near unhirable in their field without extensive and expensive retraining by the company or the worker. By have the workers employed in wpa projects this will keep constuction worker employed and trained and give new skills to unskilled workers. But no, we wasted stimulus on useless 250 checks and cash for clunkers.

This was a huge chance wasted by political infighting. What a shame.

No that wasn't Kenynesian economics, that was Democratic porkbarrel spending crap. Hundreds of billions of dollars STILL haven't been spent. What has been spent has been an absolute joke. It wasn't about a sudden jolt to restart the economy. It was about repaying Democratic special interests and porkbarrel boondoggles.

I November they will pay for what they've done when the American people fire them en masse.

Seb, if the source of this wasn't any particular politician but a news site wouldn't it still be ridiculous? I hope every representative that put this crap through Congress gets voted out.
