Hi, im think about selling my Brettonians for an empire army. What is plus and minus of the empire like gaming wise? Could i do a bunch of different type of armylists? Are they diverse? Are they fun to play in the new Edition?

thanks for any help!

Empire is diverse. You can do a lot of different things well, pending on your play style.

When I had Empire, I enjoyed gun line. I imagine mortars and Hellstorm Rockets will be used to better effect with engineers.

Riflemen as detachments or as stand alone units are pretty nice as well. You've got access to one of the cheapest hordes in the game as well.

Yeah i have been browsing the Battle report section and i have seen lots of different types of armies and it seems like they are cheaper points wise, it will be a nice change from my Brettonians. But are they also good and Close combat how many men does a swordsmen unit need to be good? Because then this will turn expensive.

I HATE how they sell almost all the stuff in 10 man blocks for 25$ makes it way more expensive!

Collecting empire is like collecting IG minus the tanks (ah, except for the occasional steam tank or 2). It WILL be expensive, unless you get your hands on the older starter set empire models, where you get spearmen, knights, and handgunners. Still, with the emphasis on large infantry blocks, you will buy a lot of those 10 man boxes.

The positive thing is that you can practically build an effective army entirely in plastic, and painting empire troops is more of painting the color scheme unlike the heraldry in the bretonnians.

The empire truly espouses a combined arms approach. Even with detachments in support, empire troops will struggle against a lot of superior CC units from the different races. However, reduce those units with gunfire first, and then it's a different story. You need more patience to play empire as compared to playing bretonnians, as it may be better to hold back for a turn in order to get another round of shooting in as compared to charging, especially since charging in 8th ed is not as critical as compared to previous editions of WHFB.

Awesome advantages. And no matter what point cost, you can basically take two to every other Hero slot. They let you re-roll the artillery dice, so your chances of hitting and staying on a mis-fire are extremely rare.

Meaning you're going to pound whatever is coming across the field.

They don't work with the volley gun or rocket launcher or the volley gun do they, or had it been changed with an errata?

It has been re-worded in the Empire FAQ and states:

"In addition, one war machine that is within 3" of a Master
Engineer may re-roll either one scatter dice or one artillery dice per turn."

So it appears any war machine can use this ability. Also, it doesn't let you change each one for the Hellblaster - but changing one could make a world of difference.

So if he can re-roll a hellblaster shot, and lend his BS 4 to the same, does that make a hellblaster with a master engineer a really good option all of a sudden?

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

There's an Empire army box up on Ebay at the moment. You might look there for deals. I play Empire too and found the heavy magic using armies difficult so I reconfigured with a warrior priest. I play gun line mainly, but I may reconfigure to take advantage of the new rules.
