Does anyone have any good tutorials on how to make snow bases? Was thinking of basing my new HE army in the snow but really have no idea how to do it lol.
Thanks in advance

It's one of the harder flocks to do apparently. That is the only thing I can say.

Expect my posts to have a bazillion edits. I miss out letters, words, sometimes even entire sentences in my points and posts.

Here's a good tut on making snow bases using bicarbonate of soda (that's bicarb, not baking soda or baking powder ).

I use Woodland Scenic white flocking, and it works just fine for me.

If I wanted to model drifts and stuff (I haven't as yet, but I haven't gotten around to basing my chariots and monsters yet), I'd use GS or sand (depending on the effect I wanted) and then flock over it.

I cannot recommend baking soda or bicarbonate. I have had snow done that way yellow over time.

I make a mix of Woodland Scenics Snow, white glue, and water and apply it liberally to the base, let dry. If desired, you can layer a light bit of pure snow on top for a freshly fallen look.

I use Woodland Scenics Soft Flake Snow, instead of glue I have started to use Realistic Water (also from Woodland Scenics).

Should be some examples in my gallery.

Bicarbonate of Soda is a mineral, but if there's anything else in the mix (as there often is in baking soda in the US) it will go yellow after a while. Use your own judgement and check the ingredient list. Some varnishes will also yellow it.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to do. Which is why GD winners always use it.

I think it's much harder to do an entire army as apposed to a single model.

If you want to get serious on the snow you need to start messing with dangerous substances. Well crushed glass.

Here's a tutorial - http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=6

And the associated product. - http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=106

Seen it done, but with kids in the house I'm not sure tubs of that lying around would be a good thing.

Any hobby or craft shore should have some. I usually get mine from my FLGS though.
