This was an idea I had whilst designing an entirely airborne IG army with a friend, this is meant to be a light flyer that is the AH6 Little Bird to the Black Hawk of the Valkyrie.
This was meant as a smaller, cheaper transport for little squads: CCS, PCS and SWS
Shoot me (or it) down in flames if it is OP, doesn't make sense etc.
AV- F:10 S:10 R:10
BS-3
Can be bought as a Dedicated Transport
Its a Fast Skimmer. Open-Topped. Unarmed
Transport Capacity: 6 (No Ogryns, maximum of ONE heavy weapon)
2 Fire Points (sides)
2 Entry Points (sides)
Can buy a TL Heavy Bolter for +10pts
or a multiple rocket pod (would have just one from the Valk) +15pts
Was thinking around 50pts or 60pts for this, as it is smaller and weaker than a Chimera, but much faster.
So, any thoughts?

Funny thing to do on L4D [if you own the server] Bind the tank music to a key, then at quiet moments press it and start firing like mad at something behind your team whilst screaming 'tank' on voice comms. |

I think it needs some sort of boost like +1 to cover saves, I agree on the 50pts

Maybe 45 points for this. Seems like a good idea.

Thanks for the feedback, its still flying, not shot down!
But, I realised that it would be more useful if it had the Mobile Command Vehicle rule, to fit with its role as a...um...mobile command vehicle
This idea could also be rejected, but if it isn't, the points should probably go up to at least 50, if not 55. I like the idea of it being 45pts currently, given its weaknesses that a Chimera does not have (it being the only transport competition).

Fair point General Ian. Also, it being Open Topped negates firing and entry points, right? If not, then it should have 6 fire points.

Perhaps you could have liek a vehicle clamp on it for +20 points. Maybe carry a sentinel.

Clamp a sentinal to it? that probably wouldnt be practical for a small assault craft. FW already has the valkyrie sky talon thing

Essentially, a Vyper without TL Shuricat but with a Falcon's transport capacity. Sorry, I put everything in Eldar perspective. About 50 points sounds about right, if you give it some discount for 5th edition power-creep.

Yes, open topped negates the necessity of fire and entry points.

Maybe a capacity of 8 or 9? But I reckon that it could have a couple of heavy stubbers?

I actually like the lower capacity, as it would force players to weigh how they want to use their command squads, rather than just have a cheaper Valkyrie. If you have a command squad of eight or nine models, you should have to buy a Valk/Vend for them. But I do like the idea of door mounted stubbers that can only be used while the vehicle is mounted by one or two models.

I think that you should allow it to Cary Passengers OR Heavy Bolters and Missile Pods. No roo for both. And 8 or 9 compasity? Nope. won't fit.

Fair enough, I reckon that you should be able to have stubbers with passengers though.

Going from real world examples (which is where the original idea came from), I was aiming for this to be like the American Little Bird Helicopter. The variants, AH6 with its Hydra missile system and the MH6 with its troop capacity were the templates. I tried to reach a mix of the two, but here is what I think should be changed and kept.
-Troop Capacity of 6, Skinnattittar has it right on, maximum of one advisor thingy. The Vanguard is meant to be a smaller, more mobile and cheaper Valk. 7, maybe, but its pushing it a little. The riders would be two on each side-board, and two in the middle bay. Possibly the extra would be in the co-pilot seat.
-The vehicle I envisioned is too small for door gunners, but I can understand if the side boards are removed to stick on heavy stubbers, crew would man them, so it would lose transport capacity.
-Sticking with the Little Bird theme, if the MH6 is mounted with a missile system it loses transport capability, becoming an AH6. Following JDM's point, the Vanguard is now renamed the Vim (or Vigour, up for debate ) and will have no weapons but a transport capacity of 6, it can be selected as a dedicated transport.
I am now creating the Vim/Vigour's sister, the Vanguard, it has either a TL heavy bolter or TL heavy stubber or one multiple rocket pod. It can also have door heavy stubbers (heavy bolters are too bulky). It is in the Fast Attack section, squadrons of up to 3. I am leaving pts up for debate, but the AV, BS and special rules, but it has no transport capacity.
That's my view on the matter, again, debate what you want, I'm still up for suggestions, but currently this is how I see the Vanguard and the sister Vim/Vigour as standing.

A fast attack squadren of 3 with skimming, TL guns? why, that would make the sentinals a worthless unit!;D
(poor sentinals, no use as a walker with mini-valks running around with better guns and speed)
but its a lovely idea, you've gota figure out the points cost for this amazing peice of imperial tech!

Despite popular disbelief, I think that Sentinels can still play a role, for providing mobile AT firepower, cheaper than a Russ and will have a better array of weaponry than my Vanguard.
But I do take your point king-newmic, the Vanguard is in a section with an amount of competition. I can't retract the rules as they're already here, but I am making some sort of statement saying that the Vanguard is maybe a bit too much. The Vim will stay however, as I see it as a useful Chimera alternative.
Current points is 50, I think. Cheaper than a Chimera, unarmed with very little armour, but providing an amount of tactical flexibility that only the Valk can match, and this is for small squads only. So 50pts it is. Weapon options for the Vanguard may be possibilities for the Vim, after playtesting...
