I understand that with wound allocation, you can assign saves against wounds however you see fit as long as they are distributed equally amongst differently equippied units. However, do you have to assign the wound types evenly?
Example.
I have 3 nobs w/ 2 wounds each.
They get hit with a big volley of fire and get 4 save or ID, 4 armor saves, and 4 cover saves.
Can I put the 4 ID wounds on 1 nob, 4 Armor on another, and 4 cover on the third? Or does each wound type have to be allocated evenly?
Also.. during shooting.. the said attacker has a tank with a lot of guns. He fires 4 big guns, 4 medium guns, and 4 little guns. Does he fire them all at once and tally hits then rolls for wounds then allocate, or do we check hits and allocate between each type of gunfire?
Thanks,
Me.

Nobz: Only if they were all different wound groups. If they were all the same equipment, you would lose 4 out of 3 Nobz to ID. This is because you have to assign to WOUND GROUPS, not models. Shooting: Yes, it's all at the same time, so you roll to hit everything, then Roll to wound everything and only THEN do you allocate wounds.

Thanks, that's what I meant with the Nobz. I didnt think anyone outfitted them identical for that very reason.

T'frog: essentially no, when you *alocate* wounds you are only constrained to placing them evenly
However when you actually resolve unsaved wounds at THAT point you must remove whole models from *within* the group if the wound caused ID.
The step most people forget is to group wounds, and models, into groups of identical models, and then take saves.

Nosferatu,
In the case of Nobz however, doesnt each nob become it's own group, if they are all outfitted seperately?
So in the above case, if all nobz are equipped differently, no two models the same.. I could say..
[Group 1] Nob 1 takes all 4 cover saves.
[Group 2] Nob 2 takes all 4 save or dies.
[Group 3] Nob 3 takes all 4 armor saves.
Correct?

That's correct. The very reason people make units of 9 unlike-equipped Nobz. Makes them tough to deal with. Especially with a painboy.

9 Nobz, 3/3/3 Split of Choppa/Big Choppa/Power Klaw, Painboy and Cybork Bodies. Add bikes for +1 Toughness and you have a unit that will take whatever the enemy throws at them and munch them up in return.

This is one of those examples where it can be prudent to fire less.
(in your example, if you fired only the ID weapons and not the others then you would actually kill more...)

Also why it is important that you resolve wounds/saves at initiative value in CC rather than all at once.

They roll all of their bolters, and their plasma guns all at once. Then they roll to wound you with each, separately. Then, you allocate which wounds you took. Then you roll saves. Then you remove the necessary models.
That's not what's been going on with you?

I'm confused. Well, I find it easier to roll the Plasma Shots after you roll all the bolter shots. Isn't that what most people do? It's much too complicated to roll them together.
I usually just separate my shooting phase for a unit into two parts and figure out wounds at the end (ie, I manage to wound two guys with my plasma guns, then I roll for all the bolter shots and score two more wounds. Then I have four wounds. Two are AP 2, so two guys die and the other 2 roll saves. That would be my shooting phase for that unit.).

Heres a good scenario.
You have 3 obliterators. one has one wound left. You then get it by a lascannon. YOU MUST give it to an unwounded model, so you dont skimp out on instant death.
So you will then have 2 oblits, one with 2 wounds, and one with 1.
scenario 2.
You have a guardsmen heavy weapons team with mortar, heavy bolter, and autocannon. Instant death doesnt matter where it goes here, they are all unique in equipment. so you get a wound from a bolter shot. no body likes mortars, so you wound the mortar.
Then you get a lascannon hit to the face. You may allocate it to the mortar. This is my understanding anyway, correct if wrong.

Jaon, you are indeed correct. The requirement that ID wounds be put on an Unwounded model applies only to wound groups.

Sure, you can roll all your shots/to wound rolls separately if you like. However, your opponent has to wait nuntil you are completely done firing the unit before he allocates any wounds to his models. So in your two plasma/two boltgun example, if you were shooting at my unit of 3 marines consisting of a sgt, a special weapon and a boltgun, then I can allocate both plasma shots to the boltgun and the sgt and special each get their normal save.

But (and I'm just trying to make sure I have it right, so correct me if I'm wrong please) in scenario 2 the bolter shot and the lascannon shots must have come from two completely different units. If both wounds came from the same unit, then you'd have to distribute those wounds evenly, which means both could not land on the mortar.
