Well, seeing as how I've lost my previous blog and haven't updated it in well over half a year, I believe, why don't I just start up a fresh one. Seeing as how I seem to be painting with more regularity as well, it might be nice to start anew anyways.

In any event, basically, I've got a High Elves army getting painted up (Caledor-themed), hopefully in time for some competitions in the Fall, as well as a budding Empire army which will hopefully provide a nice break from painting all these ridiculously large helmets .

In any event, here's what I've finished more recently:

First up, Phoenix Guard. I've almost finished the front rank. Just gotta finish up the Standard Bearer:

RNF

Musician

Champ (sorry for the slightly blurry pic)

The boys together

Only 14 more of these suckers to go.

Figured I might as well try to record the progress of the Empire army from the beginning:
This is what I have right now:

Basically just bought a Brigade box a while back and coupled with some older plastics that I got off of trades in the Swap Shop. Pretty much have the bulk of my army from that alone.

And looky what just dropped in the mail! More crap!

Also tried out some test colors on one of the older Swordsmen models I had:

It's a nice welcome change from the White/Red of my High Elves.

More to come!

Thanks, MGS.

I'm going for Middenland colors, slightly tweaked. As far as I can find, the colors are just "blue" with no real specification for contrasting colors. Middenheim specifically says Blue and White. I'm thinking of going Blue and Khaki/light Brown.

Wow, the phoenix guard look fantastic! Very nice work getting all of the details done, and I see what you mean about the profligation of "gems" now! They're all over the place

I really like the blue on the empire test model. You're right, it's refreshingly different from the red you've been doing

My one constructive criticism would be that I think I can see a little bit of texture on the first phoenix guard's gold helmet (maybe it's just the light). I don't know if this is from the primer being slightly rough or from the paint, I think metallics tend to do this more. I just had a primer recommended to me that can be bought at auto zone that apparently goes on smoother, which I'm going to give a try.

Excellent stuff... now get the other 14 done!!

Yeah, the texture is mostly owing to the primer. I think it was slightly humid the day I primed them. On the whole, it's not so noticeable from a table-top perspective.
