Hi, All,
I, just yesterday, dug out some Space Marine Scouts, fresh on the Sprues, that were originally part of a Battleforce. They'll most likely be assembled for long-term use in my Home-Brew Chapter, the Vultures Vermilion, but from a Gaming point-of-view, I'm wondering how I should equip them? I don't much fancy Boltguns, as that's why I have Tactical Squads. However, it comes down to BP/CCW or Shotguns. I have some Questions.
- Since there are only 4 Shotguns, can the Scout Sergeant have a BP/CCW?
- Do Shotguns stand much realistic chance of popping light vehicles, if they can find its Rear Armour?
- Simply, which should I choose, and why? BP/CCW, or Shotguns?

I would go with sniper rifles, not shotgun or bolt pistol with CC weapon. Give the snipers telion as there sergeant, he has loads of special rules for you! Only get CC weapons and bolt pistol if your facing a shooty army like IG or Tau. The infultraite them right behing there troops!

I have two squads of scouts set up at Sgt with combi-melta, two BP/ CCW and two shotguns... this gives them a little more flexibility since my list are always build for all-comers.
In all honestly I would say the BP/ CCW are the best choice in general, I like the shotguns because I am not always wanting to assault there are times I want them to assault me and the combo of bolt pistols and shotguns are just enuff to piss your opponent off to get them to commit to a charge

i gave my scout sergeant a PF and the rest a even mix of CCWs and shotguns.
Shotguns are anti-infantry. no AP means -1 on the damage roll and you can only ever glance for a -3 total. i reccomend having 2-3 shotguns and the rest with CCWs. the sergeant should have a PF.
if you outflank with this config you can potentially get a charge off on an enemy vehicle(3 fist attacks and 9 Krak grenades) or firesupport unit hiding near the back. don't do this against anything with a 3+ save or better as your attacks will just bounce.

Although I do not use CC scouts, I have considered it. I consider BP+CCW to be better based on the fact that you are probably going to give cover saves to whatever you are shooting at. The shotgun gives you 2 shots then 2 attacks when you assault, the ccw+bolt pistol gives you 1 shot then 3 attacks when you assault. Shotgun is also more likely to land you out of assault range if they remove closest models.
