For the rank bonus you need an extra 5 models beyond the first rank.

Is it the same for figuring Steadfast? Or is a unit say, against a large monster, steadfast if it has just the front rank of 5 models?

You are steadfast if you have more ranks. A unit of 5 models has 1 rank... versus a monster who has no ranks, you would be steadfast.

Yeah steadfast doesn't say you need more combat resolution from ranks to have steadfast.
