Alright, so just for fun I've decided to whip up a couple of 500 point lists.

One Guard, one Tyranids.

Rasczak's Roughnecks and Planet "P".

And if you don't know what I'm talking about, you're not qualified to critique these lists.

So tell me about the following lists, and anything that can be done to make them more... "fluffy." If you will.

Rasczak's Roughnecks:

500 points

Company Command Squad 65
Power Fist

Infantry Platoon 185
Platoon Command Squad
Infantry Squad
Infantry Squad
Special Weapons Squad w/ Demo Charge (Nuke)

Infantry Platoon 185
Platoon Command Squad
Infantry Squad
Infantry Squad
Special Weapons Squad w/ Demo Charge (Nuke)

Private Zim (Guardsman Marbo) 65

And Planet "P":

500 points

Hive Tyrant 170

11 Hormagaunts 66

11 Hormagaunts 66

11 Hormagaunts 66

11 Hormagaunts 66

11 Gargoyles 66

Hive Tyrant's the closest thing I could come up with to the Brain Bug. Lemme know what you all think I should do!

I think the first list is much better fluff wise (and likely game wise as well)
I always felt that the numbers were far more emphasised than the toughness.

Unfotunately the Roughnecks have no chance, you forgot to put Zim in your list!

I like em, I saw that film seven times at the movies and was heartbroken at the cruddiness of the two sequels...no wait, three sequels wasn't it?!

I'd go with the first list personally, since the warriors don't seem numerous enough to fit with the films opening battles.

I actually painted my guards helmets blue like the ones they use in the training scenes because it was my number one fantasy back then...

Well, number two fantasy...

Well he's only good for breaking recruits' arms and capturing Brain Bugs.

We don't wanna capture this Brain Bug.

We wanna kill it!

There were three?! I stopped paying attention after II and III were so horrible.

I happen to agree with these statements, it's making me heavily lean towards list #1.

It is just like Starship Troopers...the Roughnecks have no chance...in terms of following the fluff...List one...Warriors are too few to match the swarms seen in the movie...I say movie because I don't count the sequels as movies.

I honestly hope they don't. I hope they get absolutely overrun and call a general retreat, but not before killing quite a few Bugs.

Another vote for #1, I may just go ahead and take down list 2.

Unholy_Martyr wrote:I say movie because I don't count the sequels as movies.

I don't think any Starship Troopers fan does.

I like the premise of what you are doing, but ZIM should be your Marbo, not Rico.

Sorry, no, there were three films and the crappy cartoon, I got confused after the pathetic attempts at doing the suits at the end of the third one!

But Zim never threw around a single nuke (represented here by demo packs) the entire movie.

I suppose I could make Rico one of my Platoon Commanders and make Zim Marbo instead.

The funny part about the "crappy" cartoon was that it was the best adaptation of Heinlen's book.

Alright, Zim is now Marbo and list #2 for Planet "P" no longer exists.

One thing about the most recent Troopers movie I couldn't understand is that the Animatronics/CG in the first one actually looked better than the third. No idea what it was like in s\the second, I stopped watching it after about 15 minutes, and only made it that far because I was drunk.

I've got the cartoon series on my PC, havent gotten round to watching it yet

I especially like how in the Planet "P" list, if I don't have the Brain Bug (Hive Tyrant) in synapse range of the Gaunts, they're simply going to rush towards the Guardsmen and attempt to rip them apart.

Not unlike Bugs with a Brain Bug versus Bugs without a Brain Bug.

The guard list will get horribly slaughtered in absolutely every game against that tyranid list (and against most other lists at this point level in any army).

If the whole point is for everyone to have a good laugh as a bunch of human infantry models run away and get mercilessly cut down every game, then you're good to go.

Why you'd want to do this sort of escapes me at the moment.

If you were doing a custom mission where the Guard had to close holes and the bugs started in the holes and rolled for reserves to come out of a hole of their choice it would be interesting.

When all but 1 hole is closed, all remaining bugs come out of it at the start of the bug players next turn.

Dude have you even seen the movie?

You haven't if you think the humans are supposed to have even the slightest chance in this one.

Just a note, I think that the Guard list is Illegal. IIRC you have to have 3 special weapons for each Special Weapon Squad.

Yup.

If I use -><- I'm not mocking you, it's a reflex from using the " silly" icon on every other forum.
However, if I use this -><- I might just mock you.

Yup.

You sure? I thought it was "Up to three Guardsmen may choose upgrades," not "Three Guardsmen."

I'll check my codex when I get home, though.
