I suppose that these days damage to embarkees in vehicles is much like the actual damage done by grenades.
IE: It is considered to be accounted for. If a vehicle is destroyed or explodes, the squad members lost may have died in the blast, or may just have been caught by a stray round aimed at the vehicle. This is in much the same way as frag grenades are considered just to force the enemy to keep their heads down, and any casualties caused by the blasts are accounted for in the combat.
