From a tactical sense, which type of Assassin do you prefer?

Mine would be the Eversor: He can Infiltrate, with a 24" charge range meaning that if you get first turn you can pounce on his armour or dive into an enemy squad with a maximum of 10 attacks that always wound on 4's or better! Also, he's the only assassin with Melta-Bombs, so he can be just as deadly to the enemies's heaviest armour as his toughest infantry.

Anyone care to share their Assassin tactics?

Callidus: the original Lash of Submission .

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I think the Callidus Assassin is obviously the best Assassin available. The Eversor is also fairly strong, especially for his fairly low cost-- turn one charges or outflanks aren't out of the question for this guy! Vindicare Assassins, while cool (I had one kill a Rhino and 4 Chaos Marines with one turbo-penetrator round once) probably aren't worth their points. Culexus Assassins are too goofy for use in non-scenario games, and aren't particularly effective either.

Callidus. Between Word in Your Ear and her ability to show up anywhere, use the Neural Shredder and then assault with the C'tan phase sword on the turn she arrives.
Priceless.

Okay, the Callidus is the most useful all-round, but after that it depends upon your opponent and purpose.

Vindicare are great for killing PK nobs, which really hurts Orks. Culexus make Eldar jetseer players cry. Eversor rock versus Guard or Tau.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Yeah I'm surprised at the lack of love for the Culexus, they can be pretty nasty against psychic-heavy armies.

Callidus. Accept no substitute. It is the only one of the Operatives that delivers constantly regardless who you are fighting. Culexus is situational. The Eversor is ultimately just one guy ( without Frag grenades! ). The Vindicare has nice special ammo but only ONE shot of each.

While i voted for the Callidus for all the reasons above, the Death-Cult is not to be underestimated.

From what i recall you can take three as one elite choice that act independently.

When i faced an IG player with a Static Gunline i raced 6 of them down a flank and when he was about to shoot at them i just asked wich one and he was like "Wut?!" and i told him that they act independantly he realized that it was a waste to shoot a whole IG squad at one model and opted to shoot at my penitents instead.
Anyway once he realized that those assassins was wrecking face on his guardsmen it was too late

Damn. I didn't read "From a tactical sense".

Eversor would be my vote for coolest model. Callidus would be mine for best tactically.

callidus assain is best allied with IG. word in your ear to pull a squad out of cover and then template them first turn and the combo with psyker battle squad to make a unit leadership < 4, then the callidus nukes them with the neuroshredder and wounds on a 2+ ap1 no cover save and its strength 8 vs their leadership < 4 so insta kills on multi wound models.

QFT.

This is an iffy but extremely effective way of killing big baddies like assault terminators, swarm lord, a squad of 3 carnifexes squad, anything! And ignoring invulnerable is an added bonus. just a shame the neural shredder isnt a pistol, an extra attack would be nice.

actually its been FAQed that the neural shredder is a 1 handed weapon, but GW didnt specify whether it gave an extra attack in CC when combined with the phase sword, which seems strange that they couldnt just clarify it completely since they already said it was 1 handed. My fave has to be the culexus, just for the priceless moments when I raped my friends synapse creatures in 4th ed, and the doubles tournament when me and my friend both took a culexus and 2 full psyker battle squads. 38 str5 ap1 shots x2 at bs5 anyone? For some reason people seemed awfully upset that the measly 2 wound psyker assassin who they had ignored all game because they had no psykers suddenly popped out from behind a chimera and blasted the nearest squad into pieces.

I like the Vindicare Assasin.

"No you can't."

"Ha! I pick this guy to die!"
"Well, I pick this one."

"Ooh, I ignore your armor save!"
"I don't have one."

38 per guy we both had a culexus, the psyker squads were in chimeras nearby (theres adebate on whether the psyker squads should give the culexus more shots but we asked the tourney organizer beforehand and he said yes so no problem with that) If combined thats 76 str 5 ap1 shots at bs 5, so 64 hits which will kill any non vehicle unit in the game pretty much. Even alone the 38 shots will kill 1 unit easily most of the time.

ok, so youre one of those guys who just go around looking for threads where he can make snide remarks and sarcastically insult people. Seriously, do you have nothing better to do? Its a gimmick, simple as that. The army is by no means "competitive" we came third. Its just quite fun to use and worth it to see you opponents face when you catch them off guard.

i voted callidus as she's simply the easiest to use. she's effective against EVERY army in EVERY game while the others require a bit of luck regarding what your opponent takes and how they use it. screwing with your opponent's deployment is always good as is appearing with an ap1 flamer exactly where you need to.

culexus' usefulness is entirely dependent on the opponent's list. eversor is dirt cheap and a close second for the poll in my opinion; as long as you protect him until he charges and you select your targets appropriately (squads that will take him 2 turns to kill but aren't optimized for close combat), he's golden. he was a ton better though in the third edition days where casualties were taken from within 2" and he could reliably kill everyone who could strike back before they had a chance to.

the vindicare is good but the few times i've seen people use him, it's been wrong. he only gets on average 6 shots per game and only 3-4 will actually wound (4+ normally and IIRC he's got a single 2+ shell). instead of shooting ICs with 3 wounds and 50% of the time getting nothing in return, people need to target the mandatory in 5th edition squad leaders instead. fighting a BA player? shoot the sanguinary priest with the 2+ shell (hits on 2+, wounds on 2+, ap1, and can single out the character even in a squad or if behind with a -1 to cover). on regular rounds, target that tooled up veteran sergeant with a power fist. kill point game? turbopen a side armor vehicle instead of going for that multiwound character.

Hehehe, at the NovaOpen this past weekend, Neural Shredder on Alpha Prime Warrior, Swarmlord, and 3 tyrant guard. Swarmlord lived.............

Doesn't have to be a pistol, just has to be a single-handed weapon.
Page 37, BRB:
Engaged models with two singlehanded weapons (typically a close combat weapon and/or pistol in each hand) get an extra +1 attack.

And guess what the FAQ says...........................
Q. Does the Callidus Assassin’s neural shredder
count as a single or two-handed weapon?
A. Single-handed.

Callidus is more tactical, Vindicare is cool but I've never found them incredibly effective, Culexus shines in the right light but isnt as flexible, Eversor is a cheap killy unit and...um...never used the last one. Chose Eversor though, the idea of a guy in a skull mask going nuts and slicing apart a squad of Orks is a cool image!

Synapse creatures count as psykers don't they? Just in a match a while ago my friend was convinced they weren't and I thought they were. Not aiming to derail the topic but can someone make the concrete statement that synapse ARE psykers, so I can slaughter his 'Nid Warriors. Many thanks!

And cool topic choice Valkyrie, great avatar too.

I don't play as much as I could. I blame society! And ninjas

Wehrkind: "Nah, see he yells the order, and when everyone looks at him and say "What?" he grabs the vox, hits a guy with it and screams "CAN YOU HEAR MY NOW?!" into the mouth piece. Works like a charm "

Funny thing to do on L4D [if you own the server] Bind the tank music to a key, then at quiet moments press it and start firing like mad at something behind your team whilst screaming 'tank' on voice comms.

Thanks, I'm a big fan of House

Concerning the Synapse query, I would say that it dosen't affect the Culexus as IIRC, it doesn't actuallt state that Synapse is a psychic power, it is just a passive ability which affects friendly units.

behind you!

I voted for the vindicaire because of his special ammo and ability to pick out his target. Especially right now when alot of armies rely on the inability of shooting to pick off special characters to get most of their benefits. (wolf lord gets into combat bc you can't shoot him seperately, guard officers continue to give orders all game because you can't shoot them seperately, sanguianry priest buffs everyone in sight because you can't shoot him seperately, etc...) He seems like he solves alot of problems at once.

I like the one who moves the other guy's stuff before the game starts too....
