I am sure this has been brought up but I couldnt find it in the search so ill make my own post.
A battlewagon with a deff rolla. Does the deff rolla count as part of the hull?
Or does it not and you treat it the same as you would a dozer blade. If thats all you can see you cant shoot it as well as when you ram another tank wouldnt you actually need to hit it with the front of the battlewagon and not the deff rolla?
What is the ruleing/general census on this?

There really isn't a consensus on it.
RAW, it shouldn't be treated as a part of the hull, because it's not.
But actually playing that way causes all sorts of potential issues... so some people prefer to play it as a part of the hull just to remove confusion.

RAW, the deff rolla is not part of the hull and is indeed treated like a dozer blade. Rams with a rolla work fine, the ramming and tank shock rules require only physical contact between the models (not a 0" measurement from the hull...). Many people house rule the rolla to be part of the hull to 'simplify' its interaction with disembarking and deployment. insaniak wrote:But actually playing that way causes all sorts of potential issues... so some people prefer to play it as a part of the hull just to remove confusion.
I will, as usual, point out that playing the rolla properly creates no actual rules conflicts or issues and functions perfectly fine. All of the 'issues' are with players perceptions and expectations, not the rules.

Alright thanks that is what i figured as well. Treating it as part of the hull just to make life easier. yeah it will be a little funny when you deploy your troops 2 in away from the roller but oh well. Thanks guys

Well, there is a slight problem with assaults and the deff rolla. In order to actually be engaged a model has to be in btb contact with an enemy model, or be within 2" of another model in their unit that is in btb. A deff rolla makes it rather difficult to assault a battlewagon from the front arc since the rolla (the kit made by gw installs a bit off the ground) irestricts btb contact.
The rolla can be installed in other positions, but the basic position is indeed exten ding from the front of the bw. Other positions are possible, but we do need to figure out how to deal with the people who install the rolla in the most obvious fashion.

Why does my eldar army run three fire prisms? Because the rules wont let me use four in (regular 40k). |

out of curiosity, how did you search? this comes up weekly and should be easy to find. i typed in "deff rolla hull" in the search box and a dozen different threads showed up on the first page of the search talking about the subject.

Agreed. This is a commonly aksed question.
But when there are hundreds of people who are looking for the answer, but not all at the same time, you will get these questions as posted above by the OT.
