Ok so Ive posted on here and gotten good responses about my ork troubles. Thank you btw, and now i have a different question about a new army. With Starcraft coming out Ive have renewed my interest in Zerg er tyranids er ..... whatever. My question for the esteemed dakka dakka group is how to beat the ragnar deathstar squad of Ragnar, wolf priest, frost weapon chaplain guy and 16 little dudes in a land raider. so far my plan of eating his face with a termie prime has failed to work. quess he got indegestion. the accepted counter to ragnar so far has been hit him with walkers that he struggles top pop or shot his squad to blazes then pop him with an insta death hit. him, not seeing those options for this codex.
Help me save kerrigan er........ the hive fleet, lets pop the pretty boy dead.

Problem with that is 9 warriors and a prime (max you can have) is 500 points that will evaporate pretty easy in the face of a bunch of high str weapons. I don't think there is a competant player on the planet that would assault that without first seriously cutting it down to size with ID wounds.

you'll have to wait two rounds max of shooting. that deathstar unit will be hightailing it towards it's opponent at full speed and will either assault or be in assault range on turn 2. if it's just sitting back because it's afraid of boneswords/lashwhips, then it's not earning its points back or anything close to it; problem solved. just hide the nids behind some cover and go to ground vs str 8+ if the deathstar is hanging back.

It'd depend on points/mission/complete army builds but it seems to me he can afford to wait you out while he eats the rest of the army.
On the other hand I don't have much experiance against SW armies and I tend to be very gunshy about putting too many points in my T4 multi wound models as I do play a lot of IG and Tau which eat them for breakfast.

Volume of fire - force a large number of saves on them.
Termagants w/ assault 3 guns, furious charge, wound on 4+, and feel no pain force a LOT of saves... ...I still run a phalynx straight at my opponent - a bubblewrap of cheap guants giving cover to shooty gaunts giving cover to warriors and mid sized guys who give cover to the MC's. Since there are so many cheap gaunts, they wrap completely around the phalynx, giving themselves a cover save. I have killed a hammernator squad in a turn with a big squad of dakkagants. Not the most efficient use of points, but effective in the right build.

SWs don't look like they're without means to cause those warriors trouble, even with a good cover save. I'll mention here I've just recently taken space wolves back up, but vindicators, long fangs with missile launchers and/or a round of meltaguns before the charge could chew through what sounds like a very pricey unit of warriors. Bear in mind as well that forcing initiative 1 might just encourage him to take a unit of termies with storm shields and thunder hammers/power fists as entourage, not a bad choice in general and especially not when they'd be insta-deathing against those warriors.

warriors are alright, not the end all people want them to be.
note, make sure that transport capacity is correct, i thought the biggest SW land raider could only hold 16 guys not 19.
first step is going to be to take the initiative, make him react to you, not the other way around, I usually pile my big guns in the middle of the board to force my opponent to the edges, and then move in with outflanking stealers, trygons, and gargoyles from the edges.
popping a land raider is a problem for bugs, your real only reliable option is to drop pod zoanathropes behind it, always go behind because then ragnar has to run backwards to assault them.
if he's with blood claws (I assume) then remember they /must/ assault the nearest unit once disembarked. unusual choices that can work pretty well are pyrovores and biovores. Your best/cheapest solution is going to be termigaunts with tervigon backup. they are cheap or free, and go before the infantry on the charge, if you can tie them up with a large unit of FNP'd termigaunts and land a doom nearby, nearby he can gobble up the unit while they are tied up in combat.
hive guard can instant death marines, as well as swarmlord boneswords. I dont know what points you are playing but its pretty well accepted that bugs struggle with deathstar-style units at low point values because they lack any of their own.

Since they have to go after the nearest target, how about dropping some spore mines in.
I saw this unit on my opponents list few weeks ago. I used my Tyranofex to open the LR and then dropped assorted firepower into them until I got my Genestealers in to seal the deal.
