I named the thread "battlewagon questions" because I'm relatively certain that after this first question, I'll think of more.

Anyway, my question is this: while Battlewagons can take Zzap guns, there's no mention in the codex of the Zzap gun on a Battlewagon having a Grot crew. Now obviously if you have one in your Big Guns, and you roll an 11 or 12, one of the Grot crew is killed - is there a matching mechanic for Battlewagon-mounted Zzap guns? I don't have the model itself, so I don't know if they have crews or not. How does this work? Are Battlewagons simply immune to the Zzap gun backfiring?

In the same way as vehicles with plasma dont gets hot!, zzzap guns dont zzzzap a crewman.

It also means you use your orks BS of 2, turning an already useless gun into something chronic...

Well sure, I never said I was planning on using one. Just curious.

Okay, second question, and this is mostly because I don't have my codex with me here at work.

Are a Battlewagon's Big Shootas counted as defensive weapons or main weapons? What about the kannon/zzap gun (though I imagine this is a main weapon)?

The codex, IIRC, is not entirely clear on these.

Yup, the Zzap gun thing is actually covered in the Ork FAQ...

Big shootas are not defensive weapons as they are Strength 5, the requirement for a weapon to be defensive is S4 or less - or have I overlooked something?

Big Shootas are S5... so Main.

Zzap guns are always main weapons. Also covered in the FAQ

The Kannon would depend on which shell you are using. I had thought that one was also in the FAQ, but apparently not.

Word.

That's unfortunate, makes a veritable mobile fortress somewhat less mobile. Or somewhat less fortressy, depending on what you did that turn.

I wouldn't worry, the main purpose of a battlewagon is to get your insanely large (or small but tooled up) squads into combat without getting shot up.

Or for Deffrollas, which should motivate you into moving your battlewagon every turn!

True dat. In my current list, they carry Boyz into combat, so I suppose after disembarking they mostly become tankshockers or stationary weapon platforms, depending on the type of targets left on the table.
