Alright im pretty big on DoW2 but ide like to share with you some frustrations i have and it would be great if you share yours back!

1. The newly patched assault marines that are practicaly indestructable (In Teir 1 you just cant kill them, the only effective thing i can do to them is when i get 3 fully upgraded warrior squads on them and i mean come on i use that to kill friggen AVATARS.)

2. Chaos Lord, i love using him but he is STUPIDLY powerfull yeah he has the same strengths and a Hive Tyrant BUT at least the hive tyrant doesnt have an ability that can fully restore his health...

3. Am i the only person who thinks Termies are WAY to easy to get out? For a squad of epic vehicles that can teleport, cant be supressed OR knocked back they seem pretty cheap...

It's my favourite RTS. It captures the feel of 40k far better than the original did.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I know what your getting at though, it seems to be very love it or hate it but i love the combat, i always got bored with just building as many of one unit as i can and clicking [attack / move] to the other side of the map like every other RTS though.

I was dissapointed with the scale of batltles in DOW2. Singleplayer was like a hybrid of RTS and RPG.

While the multiplayer was too small in scale to the 1st DOW or Company of heroes.

They should just make it like real 40K with no buildings at all with selection of points of army from 500-2500pts.

That would be an epic game.

Elysian Drop Troops 1500pts

Games workshop will never do something that directly cuts into their ability to sell their miniature products and that would most certainly do so.

The scale of dawn of war 2 didn't bother me too much, it would have been nice if squad sizes had maintained consistency with the board game a bit better but those numbers are pulled out of a hat anyway so it didn't really phase me. As a generality I liked the gameplay and the online portion was fun, but the system specs were quite high and even with mid to low settings it still lags at times for me. I think if they had followed the company of heroes formulae more closely rather than attempting the warcraft hero system I would have been more pleased but I don't mind the way the game came out. It's certainly better then the first game which was fun but hugely simplistic.

I would of liked to play as another faction in singleplayer mode. The games assumes from the start that everyone loves space marines as much as GW. It's like once you clock singleplayer, that's it, there is nothing else to do but multiplayer mode, which is like a dodgey hybrid of DOW1/DOW2. DOW2 should play to its strengths, which is a squad/skirmish based 40 simulator rather than an RTS. I would have liked more alternate game modes like Last Man Standing, perhaps a single player version of LMS with more unit choices.

DOW2 was a great game but felt like 1/2 a game. *Sigh* too many modern games nowadays feel uber manufactured and don't have that polished, indepth feel that a lot of older games have.

Okay, I've thought about it, and this is my conclusion: DoW II is kind of what you would get when Dawn of War and Full Spectrum Warrior have a kid. I like those two things separately, but put together, not so much...

I hate to break it to ya, but Warhammer: Mark of Chaos was exactly what he described, where you picked the ammount of points you had and when they died, they were gone for good.

No, warhammer mark of chaos was Medieval total war but with crappy hero combat. I thought he was describing something similar to vassal 40k where it's actually 40k, but in a computer. If he just wanted 40k: total war then I suppose it has been done but thats not what I took away from the comment.

The biggest rage I've got about DoW2 was spending 80 bucks total on it...stupid peer pressure.

Like many others, I found the game sort of meh. Maybe it's just me, but I lack micromanagement. The main reason I lose games in say, StarCraft II, is because I'll get distracted doing one thing, wind up harvesting like 1000 minerals, and then race to use them by building inane, useless things (like dumping it all on upgrades or building a massive anti-air defense of missile turrets).

I also disliked the fact that the scale is completely skirmish-based now. Yeah, I know, it's what 40k is (up to a point) but I liked the much vaster scale of DoW1, where (especially in Dark Crusade and Soulstorm) it actually felt like you were fighting a war against the other factions.

I agree completely with this statement.

Although: my heart soared a little I killed a Chaos Lord with 3 disgruntled Assault Marines.

Dawn of war 2 is a great deal better than dow in some ways, and alot worse in others.
for example, everbody loved the scale of dow, dow2 focused on the "dawn of war" deployment for the board game (small band of units gradually building into a larger force) but they just didnt put enough into it. sure the graphics are billions of times better than the original, but thats form 5 years of future development. the combat in dow2 is amaing, syc kills aside, the only problem is with the unit strength.
relic should have increased the squad size and lowered the toughness of the units. it shouldnt take a 5 second burst with a heavy bolter to kill and ork. or a lascanon shot from a predator half killing an eldar guardian. the other thing too is when you take a fresh squad, and fight an enemy from the same tier and win, chances are that squad you own will be maimed beyond belife, therefore a "fresh" enemy unit can weedwack you into submission.
overall:
pros:
- amazing graphics for an rts
- sweet combat with special kills
- very fun campain
- a VERY tactical game
- no time spent building millions of barracks

cons:
- scale of battles are to small
- only one playable campain race
- laggy
- impossible for begginig rts players to start out with
- units are to strong
- combat is slightly one sided

I find the scale to be fine, 4 space marines are easily equal to 10 orks. Honestly, I find the squads in tabletop to be far too large given how amazing Space Marines are actually supposed to be.

Also, love the new assault marines

Kinda got pissed about 4 man Tac squads and 3 man Assault squads, but other than that, only thing I can complain about is it doesn't run on my PC.

And weren't Banshees unkillable in Tier 1 or something?

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Banshees always did a lot of damage and were fast but they are SO fragile. Tier 2 banshees do a lot better but that still makes assault marines unkillable in teir 1.

bjackson14 wrote:i agree tier one only dies againt howling banshees and masses of orks and hormagaunts, barely.

I play Orks and Nids online and i still cant handle assault marines. Even when i focus every i have on them they pounce on me, kill a couple orks/nids, jump away, retreat, and repeat. my face on how that currently cant be stopped ---> :|
I dont think Shees do much better either i watch them get their pushed in against them pretty often.

They used to not be so wicked tough so i can understand beefing them up a bit but they also made changes to them that make them OUTRAGOUS.

1. they recieve 90% less damage while jumping.
2. new patch made it harder to focus fire them.

^ calling shenanigans on this one...

I played eldar since release and one of my fave things to do against ASM is let them jump onto my shuriken platform then warp throw them off it and back into the suppression zone.

I like DOW2 but it is quite different, smaller yet more tactical. To each his own I guess, though I like DOW 1 quite a bit too. The series got me into WH40K

Well honestly, if a marine player loses a single squad in t1, it will probably cost him the game since they are so expensive, especially an assault squad. 500/50 is a lot of resources for a single tier 1 unit. And they can die if you can't micro, or don't have enough sense to jump them away before they die But I have to agree, they are very powerful now, but I think that is how they are intended to be. Something in the meta might shake out to counter them though.

Technically causing three casualties to a tac squad (while not deadly) will set the marine player back about as much as any of the other races losing a full squad. Cost to reinforce is an important consideration, especially considering that a full assault squad can cost as much as three full gaunt or boy squads.

The new expansion looks great, a good Ork campaign is plenty overdue. Now we just need some IG love and everything will be right. It wouldn't even be too much trouble, there's already Guardsmen units in the game, the 3 Heroes could just be Commissar, Psyker and Priest, maybe a Governer Militant. I can dream~

By the clack-smack cracking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes...
