Trying to locate several or just one method of making bases for castle themed. My Vampires display board is a castle and I don't know how to make Castle//Ruins//Tiles etc display bases. Would rather try making them myself before buying the bases. Any help would be great!

I make tiles out of a foam material and lay them individually. Looking into selling them if you're interested. For illustration I used them on this base:

i've used wall putty before (like you'd use to fill in a hole in sheetrock) just put a thinish layer on the base, let it try a bit, and then carved tiles in

Use plastic card with the square pattern as a base, with sand, floor tile and bits to decorate each base.
Examples of a 40K style base, but the technique would port to square bases easily.

I'd go with plasticard, if you can find a pre-textured type to your liking.
Failing that, throw on a thin-ish layer of spackle/filler, sand it flat (sandpaper on the table - rub the base, face-down, in a circle), then scribe lines to make your floor pattern. Dried spackle is rather chalky, so a few scrapes with an awl, tack, or large pin should give you nice v-shaped grooves. Also allows you to customize the pattern as you see fit. Give it a once-over with watered down PVA afterward to strengthen and seal (don't go overboard, or you'll fill those channels you just carved!).
edit: Almost forgot! There are a number of tutorials floating around for making snazzy cobblestone bases using greenstuff, if you'd rather go that route. Drywall filler is much cheaper but significantly more brittle, even with the PVA coating, so I'd suggest shelling out for GS/Milliput if you tend to be rough with your minis.
