I've got a two part question.

A friend and I were thinking about setting up a ACW game using renegade minis and the blackpowder ruleset. I only just ordered the rulebook so I haven't formed an opinion on it yet.

I was wondering if anyone on the board had used this ruleset yet and what the popular opinion was for the book. I like the sounds of just teaching him one ruleset and then possibly using the ruleset again for an AWI, Napoleanic War or other game in this period later on.

Also I was going to try out Renegade minis, and was thinking about ordering regiments to save money. Has anyone ordered from them in the past? Do they give you a good distribution of poses in those regiment deals or will the army end up looking static. If it looks like I may end up with too much of the same pose I'd probably spend the extra money to buy the individual pack and just space out the purchases.

Why not use Perry plastics? Hell of a lot cheaper and very good.

I was thinking of using Perry. The Infantry and Cavalry box sets are a really nice deal. I liked the variety that renegade offered for their ACW range though. I was thinking of maybe mixing Renegade in with Perry, but I haven't seen both sculpts side by side to see how well they look fielded together.

Great set of rules, we use them alot.

Renegade are nice figs, but huge compared to others. You can getaway with them in seperate units but dont mix them in the same unit with other makes.

Composition of the packs does give you some variation on a similar pose, but thats generally what you want for units.

I use Perry, Foundry, Redoubt, Sash & Sabre and Renegade in my Confederate Army.

To give you an idea of the overall look...

Thanks for the advice. The linked gallery was awesome. It definitely inspired us. I think we've settled on making the core of our armies with Perry, and expanding out with some units of renegade. In the least we want to field some of their zouaves wearing fez.

Dont go overboard on Zoauves... Not that many units, yet they seem to make up half of most gamers armies cos they look pretty!

But yes... Hold off for the Perry plastics. Very nice they are too. Going to convert some to be Louisana Tigers for my Confederates.

Glad you liked our game...

Oh that won't be a problem. We were only ever thinking about maybe doing a unit of Zoauves since (as you said) they shouldn't be that common.

Actually after looking at the Perry line my friend is now excited about doing possibly the 54th Massachusetts Regiment.

Well my mate has a complete Zoauve Brigade in his force, followed by the Irish Brigade and then the Iron Brigade.

His whole army is 'veteran' units! LOL!

But we class them as we like for games, its just he likes pretty figures!

I cant say much... My Confederate Army is based on the Texas Brigade and the Stonewall Brigade...

Cool. right now Perry seems to be a little slow on public info (and I REALLY want more plastic WotR)

That's cool. We might be done painting our brigade boxes by then. We went with Perry, and both puchased a brigade box (1 infantry, 1 cavalry and split the models evenly). We figured that would be a very good core to build ontop of with other stuff. Just got my copy of black powder. I really like the rules though I'm going to need to build a bigger table since we are playing at 28 mm scale (or I guess we could play on the floor).
