I've been playing 40k for less than a year so I'm not familiar with GW's release schedule. Is it common for them to release new models but neglect to update the codex like they are with the Chaos Daemons right now? (Perhaps they have and I missed it, please correct if so.) Seems like a weak release to me if that's so.

Also, weren't there 'Megaforces' for purchase at one time that were larger than battleforces? Where'd those go?

Thanks folks!

It is more common now - they let codex writers have more reign over writing cool units, even if models arent immediately available.

So you get 2nd / 3rd waves of models happening.

You had occasional bigger boxes, especially around apocalypse release, however they tended to be short runs. They also produced starter boxes for a while when an army was just released, as an experiment - contained all the new models. However htey werent popular and, after their 1 year trial, were discontinued.

That's too bad. On both counts. I like the 'value' of the boxed sets. Oh well, battleforce it is then!

I'd be frustrated if I played daemons and was offered new models for an army with an outdated rulebook. Do these releases typically precede a codex or is it possible that a daemon codex may not be in the works at all?

the last Daemon codex was released within the last few years, so it is unlikely a new one will be in the works for a long time

It's not in the works, at all.

What they're doing is revising models that have been popular sellers from metals to plastic(in the case of Seekers and Horrors and Bloodcrushers), along with actually adding in models for units that previously had none.

Ah, I did a little research and realized the codex is from 2008. Not that old, but still last edition. At least I understand what's up with the new models, thanks guys.

This is a good point, methinks. Those dudes have been waiting for a new codex since the fall of Rome.

And Sisters are still using most of the same models they had in second edition.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I'm pretty sure that they won't be making a new codex any time soon since the codex for the daemons is pretty recent. The models are just new it's not like they have new abilities or anything, just instead of metal they made plastic I guess.

Usually GW will put out a megaforce or two around Christmas. There was an Ork and SM last year I think.

^I did see a CSM Megaforce on the GW site awhile ago. Do they only release megaforces for certain races or for all of them? I would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE a CSM Megaforce. And while i'm dreaming, world domination would be nice too.

Megaforces are only done for races that can feasibly have "an army in a box" utilizing just plastics at that pricepoint. It's been Marines, Tau, Orks, and Chaos Marines that have gotten them.
