So I travel a lot for work, and when I go out I'm gone for about a week. The stuff that I'm doing when I get where I'm going typically only runs during normal business hours, leaving my evenings as down time. sometimes this isn't so bad, when my job is in a place with interesting things to do, but sometimes my job is in Podunk, Middle of Nowhere, and there's nothing going on that I'm interested in looking into or doing. I take books and my laptop for these, but I always feel like the downtime is wasted. And when I'm at home, hobby time is at a premium, so that's always what I'm wanting to do... except that I'm not at home. I was wondering if anyone had even attempted to take a small painting kit - I'm thinking like 3 or 4 colors and a handful of models - with them in carry on luggage. Or if anyone had thought about it? I -assume- as long as it still conforms to the TSA's "2 oz bottles, all must fit in a 1 qt bag" rule I should be OK, but I was wondering if anyone actually HAD cleared airport security in the new paranoid US of A?

I'd imagine it might be difficult to carry the paint on the plane (You can't even take shampoo onto flights nowadays), but you can always take just the minis with you to ensure their safety, and store the rest of your materials in your other luggage (I'd probably recommend at least a ziploc bag for your paint pots).

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

I sold most of my miniatures, and am currently working on bringing my own vision of the Four Colors of Chaos to fruition

Yeesh. I haven't been on a plane in a couple years, but....Yeah, it would be hard.

Honestly, I'd never even attempt to take any painting stuff on a plane. I use my knives, super glue, painting cup and other things too much. If I'm missing any of them, the whole thing fails. It just wouldn't be worth the trouble to paint where I'm not comfortable.

But I guess you can try. The worst that can happen is that you have to send it back to your house via the UPS boxes they sometimes have in airports.

You can take as much liquid as you want in a non-carry on. That sounds good. I do that somtimes.

This is the first thing that came to my mind when reading the OP: Turbulence

LOL yeah, turbulence would be a pain. Were I gone for longer I wouldn't worry about packing it in checked luggage, but I don't usually bother with it because I typically pack so light, it's just not worth the fees. And I agree about missing some things, but I've regularlly travelled ground and taken just small kit of a few pots of paint, a few brushes and one or two models that I'm working on, packed in foam. Guess I'll think about it and check into it in more detail later on.

Thanks for the fast replies!

My, my. That is handy. Thank you for sharing, Samus! I think that could serve your needs quite well, Cygnwulf.

No pity!

That might just work. I'd have to leave off the knife, clippers and glue, but it could be my 'personal item or breifcase' Thanks Samus
