The best special weapon for IG is the one allowing you to accomplish the objective you need accomplish right now.

Honestly, there is no simple answer. While some special weapons (Grenade Launcher, Sniper rifle) seem sub-par, the worth of the remaining ones (Flamer, Plasma, Melta) is determined by what you want any given squad to do, and the synergy it provides with the rest of the army.

...urrrr... I dunno

I like both meltas and flamers, but I also have a healthy respect for the grenade launcher.

I use two Grenade launchers in my veteran squads. I love them, they allow me to kill infantry and light vehicles even if they excel at doing neither. Cheap pointwise too.

Proper spelling, capitalization, and punctuation go a long way here.

Flamers are nice and cheap, but you have to get close, which is dangerous for Guard. Melta is very popular, since the game is so heavy on armor. It's very situational though. If you're fighting an Ork horde, you'll probably want grenade launchers and flamers, while if you're fighting a drop podding Marine army you'll want all the plasma you can muster. If you're fighting a really tank-heavy enemy, melta is the way to go. It's all situational and there is no "best" option. There's no real "best" for anything in this game - it's all situational.

Grenade Launchers, Plasma, Sniper rifles and Meltas in that order. But all has their uses against different units/ armies

Sniper rifles aren't very good for IG since you generally need a lot of them to do anything effective. Even then, IG BS means they'll only hit half the time. Grenade Launchers wound most big baddies on a 4 with krak grenades, and will wound anything smaller on a 2 or 3. I know it goes against what I just said in my previous post, but GL's are a lot better than sniper rifles and just about any situation.

snipers are absolutely awesome for the guard
infact they are better for guard then anyone else
RATLINGS FTW

as for the other special weapons i would say they all have therwe uses

grenade launchers work well with infantry squads and heavy weapons - they also work amazingly well in vet squads against orks, pop trukk waste squad all with the same weapon

flamers just work they are the weapon of choice for all of my objective contesting units or for my "line guarding" units . They guard my flanks and protect from deepstrikes or outflankers

plasma rifles really need to be in numbers also
they work well in a squad given the task of protecting an important part of your line. Mine go in a vet squad with chimera and they sit back and protect my blob and manticore .they also rip the bejesus out of MC's

melta guns are the weapon of choice for any unit going forward with only one thing in mind - killing tanks. I send mine forward in a valk and let them get the job done and die

even sniper rifles work if used correctly
they perform well in a CCS which has 2 snipers and AC

they all work but in the right role but if i had to put them in an order it would go

flamer->grenade launcher->melta gun->plasma rifle->sniper rifle

Sniper rifles are good on Ratlings, but only on Ratlings. With vets you should really be giving them plasma or melta, and it's a waste of points on other Guardsmen.
