Hey all, I just came from painting Eldar and the normal space marines seamed rather dull in comparison. So instead of the usual monotone I decided to try and bring more colors to them. I've got a couple of thoughts on how to go and here is my first one. I'd like to know what people think of it. Obviously it would be much better if I had finished the base but I think it's enough for people to judge if they like the scheme or not.

I am probably wrong, isn't the half blue, half white scheme already taken by some ultra-smurf chapter?

Novamarines maybe?

Doesn't stop that model looking awesome though.

Close, but Novamarines use a blue and white quartered scheme.

Nice work on the new scheme.

Personally, I get bored seeing blue marines all the time. As a previous poster had mentioned its not exactly an original color scheme (Novamarines, Sons of Guilliman, etc). Then again its hard to create an original color scheme in 40k without having similarities to another chapter.

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

The Dude - "Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

Lord Helmet - "I bet she gives great helmet."

Beautiful! Your Highlighting Style is very distinctive, and instantly recognisable as your own work; I spotted your Eldar before.

I love the Scheme; if you're going to get into Fluff, I'd go something along the lines of, 'Ultramarines Successor, Homeland is dominated by vast Ice Plains, Rigorous Training Regimes to encourage Finesse in all Surroundings.' Do some Snow Basing to match the 'Cold' feel of the model, and it'll be ace!

I like the painting itself, but the scheme seems a bit confused, to me. The body is halved blue and white, like Eagle Warriors, Angels Porphyr, etc. but the shoulder pad colors are swapped, as if in a quartered scheme (Novamarines). Then the backpack and helmet are kept as a single color, like a standard scheme (Ultramarines). Then I notice that both arms are blue, which confuses me even more.

I think you have the technical skill to pull whatever scheme you want off. Maybe I'm just a stickler for rigid heraldic form, but I honestly think marines look MUCH better in simple, block schemes that can then be detailed, weathered, etc. to your heart's content. As always, they're your models, paint them as you'd like, but I'll stick to my non-harlequin-esque schemes.

“Brothers, what we do on the battlefield is not just for our chapter but, for the entire Imperium. Every Xenos that falls by our hands will be a testament to our unwavering duty to the Emperor. Every heretic that is crushed under our feet will be a testament to our undying loyalty to the citizens of Imperial Space. We will baptize ourselves in fire and emerge as the most steadfast defenders of humanity.” - qoute from my own homegrown chapter

Thanx all for the comments, they've been really helpful.

On Quarter or half&half schemes, they've been done a million times, and although my scheme isn't super original it's not monotone, and it's not one of the usual part schemes.

That's why I like it, and since great majority seams to like it to I'm likely to stick with it.

Might to the same part/part but with different colors, the question is keep the white (I rather like it) and switch out the blue for green/red/yellow/orange/purple or whatever, any ideas on colors, or should I just stick to this one ?

I love what you've got already, but to make it slightly more unique, you could just do a different colour on the crest of the helmet prehaps? Maybe something like gold or silver?

with the salamander symbol in use, why not swap out the blue for a green as make a successor chaptor.

The white looks really really good, so I think you should definitely keep that. The blue looks good, but I am soooo bored of seeing blue marines. Even with all of the smurf-hating that goes on, there is a lot of blue out there.

The idea of a Salamanders successor chapter is a nice one, although the strictest interpretation of the fluff does not suggest they have any successors... but that is up to you. It would, I think, have to be Salamanders dark green to make it work - bright Striking Scorpion green would not work with the white, I do not think. White and green is hard to make look good together, but I reckon your white would work. Might as well do Mentor Legion then though...

It might be interesting to see the blue replaced with purple, but I am just not sure it would work.

Red would definitely work with the white, I think.

Yellow would leave it looking too pale still.

Black would make it look too Templar-ish. Maybe a very dark grey...

Overall, I'd say green or red.

Blue?!?

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Like the scheme. As to the background, maybe they are a codex chapter that views the Salamanders as a sort of spiritual founder (see Sons of Orar). Or maybe they just have a similar symbol (see Alpha Legion). Maybe they are the Sky Dragons, Azure/Alabaster Drakes, etc. Colors could be from an existing group or unrelated. remember, everyone from the Ultras to the Worldeaters is associated with blue and white.

I vote for "stick with what you've got" - it looks great!

As for other chapters having similar colors...

So what!

It is really only the combination of color and chapter symbol that you have to 'worry' about, and really, don't even worry then.

Lord knows there's tons of black/grey/white/yellow/etc. chapter color schemes out there!
